Raw Patchwork and Disguises

"Waiting on the World to Change" - John Mayer

Now if we had the power
To bring our neighbors home from war
They would have never missed a Christmas
No more ribbons on their door
And when you trust your television
What you get is what you got
Cause when they own the information, oh
They can bend it all they want

Today's matters of importance are only important when thinking eternal.  Are our decisions made just for the expediency of the moment?  The most difficult thing for unbelievers, such as, Nietzsche (God is dead), that the Creator of the universe actually wrote a book, a manufacturers handbook.  He designed his book knowing that people would always think that they could take a shortcut, use some patchwork.  Some of us are happiest in our struggle towards ideals even though often not comprehensible or obtainable.  We mere mortals have nothing but responsibilities on this Earth: God will sort everything out: even the patchwork of our existence.

Your writer, world traveler (passport stamped in 157 countries), has found that every civilization, every continent, worships something greater than self.  In the deserts (I traveled through the Sahara and Gobi) in the tyranny of heat, it is easy to understand why so many worship the sun.

In a world of lightweights, people who do not take anything seriously, think life is a joke, laugh about everything...never grasp the big picture...stumble all over God and do not realize it.  In the Kalahari, Botswana, Africa (and I had some vision then) on a great mountain ledge, I saw eagles (with wingspans of six feet) build a nest, the mother built a nest so the eaglets would be dumped out at a certain time in their maturity.  On our farm, guinea hens, never part of the chicken yard, roaming the woods and ditch banks, laid their eggs on the ground, configured and colored so you would hardly recognize their eggs.  The mother hog, a big sow, when it was time for her "pig delivery" would build her own bed even though there was a nice hog house for her.  As in, photosynthesis, the clotting of blood, and I could write books on the miracles of God, there are still those that do not believe in his disguises.

So it is with raw patchwork, I can still see my own father, during the Great Depression, resoling our shoes.  My own mother, a light bulb in a sock (even though we did not have electric power), sewing up holes in socks.  The greatest patchwork is our not having the intelligence to understand, raw patchwork.  The seeds of a vegetable or fruit are the most important foods you can put into your body.  We know about the seed of wheat, seed of corn, beans, pumpkins, but there are so many more, such as nuts, many are hard to eat, but seeds, including the husk possess the DNA, RNA, and other properties essential to nutrition.  Can we even imagine people who eat seedless grapes-seedless watermelon?  We die when electricity no longer flows through the body; the only thing that keeps us alive is adding nutrition to the body and removing toxicity from the body.

God designs life and designed the Earth with everything to sustain life.  Studying his miracles, the honey bee, the bee's miracle of flight, bringing sustenance from different flowers to create honey, particularly yellow flowers and, there is no greater medicine on Earth than raw honey-patchwork to health.  We, in the healthcare fields, find that weak-stupid human beings just want a quick patch to everything.  Big Pharma and big medicine, really capitalize on this laziness.  We talk about "fixes" the average patient wants quick fix with some hard to read writing on a piece of paper.  Everyone wants a pill to take care of today's problems, patients not making any changes in lifestyle at all...what we eat-exercise-amount of rest.  When was the last time your doctor asked you about your food intake-exercise-rest?  Why not?  Next to physical care, spiritual care, the average sinner, at the "mourners' bench", just wants church membership as a fire insurance policy to stay out of hell but to keep living as with fellow sinners without making any changes in lifestyle at all...repentance, forgiveness, the grace of faith (faith: action based on belief, sustained by confidence).  I find that most human beings have no sustaining power in spiritual or physical living.  Just as your health is up to you, so is the power of God's love for you.  We love life more than anything else, fight the angel of death when hovering over us.  We see lower animals fight to the death, wanting to stay alive.  All of us, intelligent animals or stupid animals will endure any patchwork to keep us alive.

The patchwork and pathways of life are more than just nerve endings, we try so hard to please, want everyone to like us.  It is so important to realize that God loves us, that as we stand on the street and watch others go by, it is difficult to find one that God does not love.

There are 43 million words in the Encyclopedia Britannica; there are more bacteria in one's body than the number of cells in one's body.  We don't deserve what Christ did for us, redemption from the cares of this world into the caresses of God, talking about patchwork.

In the philosophy of reductionism, the mere mortal, thinking on the human level rather than the heavenly level, bridges to be built here on Earth.  We know that one half of the population does not consume one fruit or vegetable a day.  Most people eat just as a matter of habit, taking in useless filler-no nutrition therefore, most stay hungry-get obese-cannot fight off disease.  Why so much cancer?  Every living human being has cancer cells.  Cancer cells secrete a coating which limits their destruction-self immunity.  They are smarter than other cells.

Your cure comes from the kitchen not the drugstore.  Disease comes from lack of nutrition.  Our soils have been depleted...anyone can say organic, can advertise organic there is a continuous need to take supplements, real patchwork.  Stay off that "if only" treadmill: if only I had eaten better, exercised more, gone to the doctor more often.  Stay away from addictions, drugs, and the lust for gourmet foods...stay with the basics, colored vegetables, and the concentrated elements-minerals in seeds.

Someone asked the great writer G.K. Chesterton, "If you were marooned on an island, what one book would you want to have with you?"  Of course this pious person expected him to say, "The Bible", but Chesterton said, "I would want a book on ship building."  God designed many of the most important things of our life in disguise all around us.  He left us with everything we need to survive.  Useless filling trash foods, useless filling lifestyles, are just temptations.  One woman, about to be baptized, immersed, said to her wonderful pastor, "I want to be baptized so I will have no more temptation."  He said, "I must keep you under the water a long time."
