The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever (Isaiah, 40:8).

Our lives change when our habits change. Show me an individual with good habits and I will show you someone who will succeed because of a disciplined life, character. Character determines destination.

We often hear people talk about the "invisible people", "they" and "them". "What will they say?" or "What about them?" Today's young people have no examples, who are their heroes? The one word not allowed to be used in speeches, U.S House of Representatives, the word "hypocrisy." Young people recognize hypocrisy before anything else, in their politicians, their physicians, their pastors, even their parents. Young people, even less than their older relatives know that science has been backed into a corner of drugs packed with chemicals, no cures just treatments, leading to "brain fog." My early education-life, "sick care" was mostly faith healing. We live in a world of sociology-psychology. This writer has seen the growth of psychology. Educators-scientists have pushed mental health into a system of psycho pathology.

In a world of trauma and dilemma where nutrition is neglected, vision impulses infiltrated by horror, how are some so thoroughly addicted-afflicted by the extremism of psychosis-neurosis-pathology, while others who are exposed to the same life experiences, escape. One third of our population have cancer, our prisons-court systems filled with crime. How do some escape? It is the ultimate hidden purposes of God. God is boss, He does what he pleases. He could have sent 3 million fiery chariots to transfer his chosen Jewish people from their slave pits in Egypt to the Promised Land IF He had chosen. He could save eternally, redeem, every person in New York City or Chicago if He chose. Our first parents, Adam and Eve chose death instead of life... and here we are.

103 years ago the greatest ship ever built at that time, the Titanic (A ship that some said, God could not sink) went to the bottom of the ocean after striking an iceberg. Even after the ship was tilting, and it took two and a half hours to sink, many on board thought it would not sink. But, 1,511 went to their death at the bottom of the ocean. Do you think those who survived could forget the images in their minds of that experience? Do you think that veterans of war, victims of the Holocaust and other horrors ever lose their mind's images? Images from their eyesight?

I speak as a totally blind man, blind for many, many years. When I dream, I see very clearly, so I enjoy dreaming... I see my mother, father, the home place, the old home church, friends-associates. Any person who dreams, knows the entanglements of reality with non-reality, even a mix up in time. We know what it is to go to the brink. We understand, better than most, Senile Dementia and even Alzheimer's. We know that chemicals, psychotropic drugs, caustic lifestyles are taking their tolls, first confusion, loss of memory and finally that long slow death. Those who understand the dream know what it is like to cross the firewall. Recently, in a confusing dream, I was talking with a girl whom I had known my entire life. She and I were mascots for a graduating class when we were about five years of age. Later we were classmates, she died early, at least 50 years ago. Yet, she was as clear to me as anytime in life. I actually talked with her about my new great grandchild. We were talking in an office building where I had done business many years ago. I can understand the complexities of mental health. We try to "pigeon hole" our thoughts and activities to certain places-levels (family-friend, social-political-professional activities, etc). We cannot predict what God is going to do with our lives, we try to pigeon hole too many things. He has unexpecteds-surprises for us. If we are intolerant at all, we have personality disorders. We are supposed to tolerate the unexpecteds, without being psycho pathological. Such matters as same sex marriage, abortion, "don't ask-don't tell", a world of lost absolutes... nothing wrong-nothing right, nothing good-nothing bad.

No matter how bad our lives get, most people, blessed with life, want to keep living. Men who have seen-experienced the horrors of war, people who have seen and experienced injustice still desire the personhood of living. We know pretenders, the genuineness of real people, solid character.

Have you ever thought about his disciples, those who had lived-walked-talked with him during his entire ministry as his feet nourished the ground around the Sea of Galilee. They saw Him take a small boy's lunch and feed thousands-walk on water during a storm-raise His friend Lazarus from the dead yet, they were scared-deserted-denied Him during his time of greatest need. Have you ever thought about Pilate, whose thoughts were mostly with his 15 year old wife, threatening the Creator of the Universe? Actually asking the question, "What is truth?" when he was talking with truth (John, 18:38: John, 14:6). IF they had believed, they would have been at his tomb, awaiting his resurrection. It was at Pentecost, 50 days later, that they received His Holy Spirit in their lives and they were never the same after that, ready to suffer anything. Luke hanged from an olive tree, Mark dragged through the streets of Alexandria, Peter hung upside down on a cross, Thomas killed by a Hindu sword in India, Bartholomew skinned alive in Armenia, etc.

Like the disciples, you can always tell a spirit filled life. It cannot be hid, the bed is too short-the blanket too narrow, something always sticks out. The spirit filled life is the grammar of living. God has the capacity to start over within us and, in the spirit filled life, sees the righteousness of Jesus when He looks at us. This is your answer for the shipwrecks of living. Whatever the "Flotsam-Jetsam" that has washed up on shore.

This world traveler has seen the tranquility of Bedouins tribes in the deserts of Africa; the tranquility of Eskimos (Inuit's) in their villages around the North Pole. Their mental capacities have not been blasted by the trash of television, modern food stuffs, irascible aspects of climate changes, addictions, social and capitalistic progressions. Like those on the Titanic, God does not need us, but we need Him in every area of our lives, whether shipwrecked or not.

Lifeboats

It has been said that the dirtiest thing known to man about every germ found in the lexicon of microbiology is found on fiat, paper money. A friend of mine, PhD in bacteriology, told me there is one thing dirtier than paper money, that is the handle on a commode In a public bathroom. Most people flush the commode before even washing their hands.

To further satisfy his suspicions, authenticate his study, he asked the manager of a large shopping center with an appropriate excuse, to let him watch the cleaners of the bathrooms. He said they cleaned, wiped off everything about the toilets, except the handle of the commode. In his petri dishes, in media, he was able to cultivate about every type of bacteria found on the handle. This writer has spent a lifetime studying the survival of the species... just how reckless we human beings are in what we put into our mouths, touch with our skin.

In spite of what the law books say, always putting human beings, made in the image of God, (Genesis 1:27) on the same level with the lower animals. The lower animals, with some exceptions, (hogs) in order to survive are very protective of themselves and their young. Thank God every day for your immune system and try to strengthen your immune system. The greatest vector in your existence are the things at the end of your arms called hands. The muscularity, neurology of the hands, colon, coordinated with the eyes: phenomenon of human existence. Watch a great pianist, great surgeon, even a seamstress yet, with the same hands we constantly bring bacteriological death into our very existence... touching poisonous door knobs. Anything which others have touched or handled along with the history of “previous touchings”. We have that well-worn custom of shaking the hands of people having no earthly idea where that hand has previously been.

It is like deserting a sinking ship constructed of cardboard, rescued by a lifeboat constructed of tissue paper. It was only 150 years ago that surgeons, cutting and sewing, seeking to save lives, learned to wash their hands. The Titanic was a ship which could not be sunk but now, it is on the bottom of the ocean. Of the hundreds aboard, just a a few hundred were saved in lifeboats, bounced around in icy seas... almost lost. Captain Eddie Rickenbacker, famed WWII pilot was on rough seas in a raft for three weeks before rescue after his plane went down in the Pacific.

Most people carry around burdens, excess baggage, their entire life, seeking rescue. There is no sin which God will not forgive, no wound that God will not heal. The greatest joy of life, the thrill of existence, the Christian's lifeboat of salvation, assured of help “in time of need”. (Hebrews 4:16)

Have you ever seen an autopsy?, not a pretty sight, you open up the body, study everything, all organs, all tissues, to determine the cause of death. To the protestors on Wall Street, the people of America, still concerned about their country, I have done an autopsy of America. It is a matter of the seven deadly sins, to much pride in wrongdoing, anger toward one another, envy toward one another, laziness of many, lust-fulness (the objective of gays and the gay agenda) of many, greed of a few, gluttony (obesity) of a few.

The Middle East is rife with protests, long victimized-oppressed people seeking justice from ruling tyrants. The super rich, globalists of the world are puppeteering these orchestrated “coups”, Egypt, Tunisia, Libya. Syria, Turkey, even Israel. Like the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, holocaust in the Middle East leading to a confrontation, East against West with the involvement of Russia and China.

Like peeling back the layers of an onion, incremental-ism beyond comprehension, satanic forces... knowing exactly what they are doing, have taken over America. Firstly, the media, print and electronic, must be totally under their control. Dumbed-down by a wrecked education system, Numbed-down by CIA and other government agencies bringing in illegal drugs: further enabled by Big Pharma and prescription drugs, made cheaper by people who feel like they were cheated. An education system, judicial system, healthcare system, all kneeling at the altar of political correctness... all kneeling at the prison cell of government tax largess. A president with his loan-shark mentality of treasury bail outs. Churches, cathedrals, temples, whose leadership had rather be popular with the world than right with God, and, some of you in your stupor, think this nation can survive such profane decadence. As Gomer Pyle said, “Surprise, Surprise”. Communists as well as conservatives protesting there on Wall Street. Where have they been as our country drowned? Do they think they are a lifeboat? These very people who voted for the controllers of the “spigot” (Obama, Bernanke, Geithner, Goldman Sachs and their ilk, etc.) Where were these people when the congress exempted themselves from Wall Street racketeering. Poor Martha Stewart who had some insider information – went to jail. A Wall Street lobbyist said, “It does not cost me anything to give important information to congress-people.” Even Bernie Madoff said, “The game is rigged.” Who would think that fluctuations in the stock market of several hundred points per day are not manipulated. Fortunes have been made with computerized trading. Democrat congress-people have increased their wealth 750 percent in one year. Every government official, elected or otherwise, making money from warfare, should be in prison.

Remember, $9.4 trillion of wealth has been lost in the stock market in the last three months. Losses suffered by hardworking, God-fearing, taxpaying, average investors, just trying to get ahead. 100 years ago, General Smedley D. Butler said, “War is a racket.” Yes, protestors, there is much to protest form the God-fearing, hardworking, tax paying citizen who are paying the price. Not you, if you had a job, preparing for a job, or were aware of what has been going on for a very long time, you would vote differently, live differently. When a country has lost it's morality, integrity, it's Christ-centered foundation, only God can save us.

Among my 5,000 first edition books, which may seem strange for a blind man to possess, but as I told a CIA agent one time 'I just like to feel them and know that so much knowledge is in the world and that it is appreciated by others who went through the trauma of the research and correcting, to leave for mankind the knowledge which so few appreciate.'  One book, written in 1890 by Dr. George Augustus Lofton, entitled Character Sketches, contains a sermon entitled 'Big I, Little U' If one lives long enough you will discover that the beginnings of the decline and failure of every individual political party, every nation, is the sin of pride. The deadly sins, pride, anger, lust, greed, gluttony, laziness, and envy all lead to the detriment of character but none as quickly as pride.

One of the survivors of the Titanic, the 882 foot long 'unsinkable' British ocean liner which sank in the icy North Atlantic in April 14, 1912. This passenger, a child at the time, said before her death that the ship was a testimony to man's arrogance. A deck hand on the ship stated before its first voyage 'that God himself could not sink this ship'. The maker of the movie 'Titanic' knows that the Titanic lay on the bottom of the ocean 12,450 feet.

Many on Wall Street and evidently many in our nation's capital in Washington DC are so possessed by the pride of their own accomplishments that they do not think the most powerful nation on Earth is sinkable. But when you consider a national debt of 10 trillion (Now 14 trillion in 2010, this is 10 with 12 zeros). Certainly we are not so insane or so arrogant that we cannot realize the consequences of such depth. After Michelangelo finished his famous marble sculpture of Moses, he was so arrogant that he hit the statue with his hammer and said 'speak'. Pharaoh was so arrogant in his attempt to keep possession of the Israelite that the miracles of God did not affect him.  Josef Stalin's daughter reported, after her father's death, that even though he had been a Bible scholar that on his deathbed he was still shaking his fist at the ceiling cursing God as he died.  This 5'4 inch dictator, mostly responsible for the death of 26 million of his fellow Russians, reportedly had no empathy whatsoever for wheelchair bound FDR at their various meetings such as Yalter. 

In the American experience, next to slavery, the greatest shame of this nation is it's treatment of disabled veterans and handicapped citizens. General Colin Powell stated at a Republican convention, some years ago, 'we have removed the word shame from our vocabulary'.

Born in poverty, attending public schools with children who were as poor as myself, attending church and other activities with hard working poor people, I was not exposed to the arrogance or pride of wealthy people until I went to college and came into contact with their sons. It did not take me long to realize that I was not considered 'one of them'.  People of wealth and influence always have the advantage even in the military service were equality and non discrimination should be unquestioned. I found that political influence was always more important than money or intellect. How many poor students do you know without influence or money, have been appointed to a military academy?  My very first military assignment orders were changed because a young, good looking, prestigious university doctor had the political influence to get my assignment instead of his. And so I got the worse assignment and perhaps I am still paying the price.  I went to Normandy for the 25th anniversary of that invasion, I stood in that cemetery. I stood in the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial (where 17,202 are buried) I have no complaints about anything concerning military service.

Over 50 years ago I saw my wife attempt everything possible to be accepted by the blue bloods of a southern town.  We both had graduate degrees from outstanding universities, my wife was an accomplished pianist, I was 'young man of the year' active in all civic endeavors. We were never received well on any level by those in the city who thought their genes were superior. It made no difference how polite they would appear in public, you always knew that ,in their social country clubs, the exclusive parties in their inherited family homes, their puppeteering of politicians, and even their church (those brazen enough to attend)  They had that well inherited attitude ' Big I, Little you' It always amazed me that the Jewish community, who were so liberal in their thinking, and philanthropy almost always maintained beach houses on very exclusive beaches. I was never in a college fraternity house until a military officer invited me to attend a college football game with him at Tuscaloosa. The ' Big I, little u'  attitude persisted there as it had in every other aspect of my life.  I do not want to appear as a victim or tester of sour grapes. I tremble at the very thought that these people know neither the love of God or the love of their fellow man.

Once, at a highly specialized medical meeting, one old doctor made this statement 'When I have a hard case, I pray about it.; I will never forget all the smart, overly intelligent, young Jewish doctors sitting around me snickering. 'Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall' (Prov. 16:18). Mark Twain, perhaps America's greatest humorist said,'Most people are bothered by those passages of Scripture they do not understand, but the passages that bother me are those I do understand.'

David Murdock is the 183rd richest man in the world, a billionaire, who came away from WWII homeless, living on the street. At a restaurant where he could get his meals free he had a chance meeting with a good samaritan who loaned him $450 dollars to buy a $1200 dollar restaurant. The owner, wanting to get rid of the restaurant allowed him to pay the rest in payments.

One thing lead to another, and very much like this writer, he bought one house, then bought a second house and now, at age 87, owns Dole Foods, owns one Island in Hawaii and is one of the worlds leading philanthropists. He has just given 1.5 billion to build a research center at Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He said it was a matter of having the desire, the ethic of hard work and a healthy lifestyle. He is a vegetarian, never touches meat and attributes his long life and success to the opportunity afforded to him by being an American and learning to adjust his eating habits and his conservatism in acquiring and investing money.

This is just one example of the opportunity afforded anyone blessed to be born an American, willing to make the sacrifices necessary in lifestyle and financial exuberance. When I heard him interviewed, he kept referring to Napoleon Hill's book, “Think and Grow Rich”. He told about the books he had given out to young people. I remember the impression the book made on my own life and how many times I had told the young men who I met that I would give him ten dollars to read the book. Never once have I ever had anyone come back and tell me he read the book to collect the ten dollars, including my own brother. We have a country filled with young people who just want everything boxed up, tied with a pretty ribbon, and handed to them.

I once told one young man who worked for me that I would help him by teaching him everything I know about real estate and securities. I said, however, like me, you must read everything you can find about these markets. He said, “I would just like to get a check every month”.

Wake up, this is where we are heading. The time is rapidly approaching when the government is going to give you a check for subsistence each month, but that is all you will ever be able to accumulate. It seems that the thrill of accomplishment is gone. Your government wants you completely dependent. The schools are no longer teaching self development. The forerunners of our great American industrial empire who through their own efforts thrived with success. I have traveled through every Marxist country. The clowns in Washington, Raleigh, and even locally who control your life through their political power are generally n'er-do-wells whose only accomplishment was obtaining political influence by tail kissing or something similar to get elected to their jobs or, as is the case with John Edwards, John Kerry, George W. Bush etc. married a rich or smart wife or family money purchased their political office. In my lifetime, I have known people of several skin colors, particularly immigrants from other countries, who thrived on the American system. I knew a Greek couple who saved every dime possible to get to this country and then operated a small restaurant until they owned the entire block in which the restaurant was located. They both worked long hours and so did their children, all of whom were very successful in this country.

Yesterday, when we learned that the country of Greece is bankrupt, that the interest on their debt exceeds their GNP...the exact direction in which America is heading, I thought of the movie America America produced by Elia Kazan. In this movie, we have a Greek boy whose family saved their money and sent him to Turkey where he could work and have a better life. Selling in the markets of Istanbul (I have been in this market several times) he made money but still had a dream of going to America. He saved his money, came to America, and became the success story portrayed in America America.

Three of the richest men in the world were aboard the Titanic almost 100 years ago (April 15, 1912) when it at the owners directions, plowed through the North Atlantic icebergs because the owner said the ship was unsinkable. (Isa Strauss, Benjamin Guggenheim,and John Jacob Astor) These three men did not realize they were on their death trip, they were not a flash in the pan type. Each knew the value of hard work, intelligent investing, but still, the unsinkable ship, “too large to fail” is on the bottom of the Atlantic. We have heard this about America and American Industry, “too great to fail”.

When I walked down the streets of Athens, I thought of Plato and Socrates who had walked before me. Near Pella, Macedonia where Alexander The Great was born, a field was pointed out to me where a farmer was plowing and uncovered the great statue of Nike (which means victory), in 1863, a statue which was probably sculpted in 190 B.C. It is hard to imagine a culture as great and historic as the Greek's culture which was fearless and victorious being conquered by a system of socialism which has taken over the country where these ambitious people are now satisfied with a small government subsistence.

Incompetent workers arise from an incompetent education system. Parents, teachers, principals, school board officials, should hide in shame for an education system where almost 50% of their students cannot perform at grade level, where 1/3rd quit school before graduation, where even those who go to college spend much time in remedial catch-up. America should hide in shame, knowing that 50% of the American population pay no income taxes at all, but rather depend on the tax paying ability of the other 50%. Of course, it is the 50% who do not pay taxes who vote, in lock step, for Democrats, who put in these welfare programs.

Even in the military services (volunteer) the stranglehold of incompetence, lack of work ethic, inability to speak or understand the language are just some of the reasons we cannot win a war. All failures of young people are not just addictive (drugs, sex, family genes).

The greatest society of the Western world was the Greek civilization. Next to the Greeks was the Roman empire. Both failed because of Paganism and their withdrawal from the strengths found in Republicanism and patriotism.

No society has given more to the civilized word than the intelligencer of Germany. A small man with a 25” waistline, a glowing persona and ability to speak articulately lead this culture down the road of destruction. At Birches Garden, Hitler's retreat, speaking before large crowds, he would say, “Mr. Churchill, we are coming for you”, then, he would go to the back of his stadium, run forward and say again, “Mr. Churchill, we are coming for you”, then he would go back and run forward again and shout to the top of his voice, “Mr. Churchill, we are coming for you!” How many times must the American people be reminded that the disease of corruption and Paganism of Communism is coming for us...because we are blinded to it's symptoms. The state controlled news media, the umbra of political correctness has so distorted our thinking that we are unable to recognize entrapment. Even a non religious person recognizes hypocrisy and knows the value of conviction. The heathen want no part of deceptive immorality. I may not be right but I want my church to be right. I may not be right but I want my country to be right. The hazard of morality is becoming immune to immorality.

Pivotal Points

Almost 100 years ago (April 1912), the great ship Titanic left the Southampton harbor on her maiden voyage to America. The great steamship liner was filled with wealthy Americans making the ship's fist trans Atlantic voyage, as well as poor people in the lower parts of the ship. The ship builder said before it left Southampton, “This ship is unsinkable, even God could not sink this ship.” We know today that the ship lies at the bottom of the Atlantic ocean; it hit an iceberg and did sink. The last survivor, just a baby at the time of the sinking, died recently. Books have been written and movies have been made about this great ship.

My entire life (80 years), I have been reminded about the fact that America is too great to sink. I lived through the Great Depression, I know the horrors of what people in this country experienced, and then I have lived through other recessions. Always these things just happen like the stock market. Old people have always talked about hard times. Two things my parents and grandparents talked about until their death were the Great Depression in 1930 (the year I was born), and Hurricane Hazel in 1954 (while I was away with the Korean mess).

Every decade has a time of recession, it happened in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. In 1987, President Reagan put billions in the Treasury as a “plunge protector” against the fall of the stock market. At that time, you never heard the word “trillion”. Now we are dealing with trillions in plunge, trillions in deficits. When you consider the deficits in securities, Medicare, Medicaid, entitlements and all other debit to which the government is responsible, and the condition of the world's economy, we know that we are in a financial dilemma from which there is no recovery.

We are at this point because half of the country's population depends on a government check, social security, civil service, military retirements, disability and welfare. Those who receive these checks, largess of liberal socialism in control, will not bite the hand that feeds them. They will always vote for those who have their nose in the trough. Politicians who swear on the Bible to protect and defend the constitution are willing to give away the very goose that laid the golden egg in order to keep and protect their seat of power.

It has not occurred to them that the politician, who is paid very little for this public service, is willing to spend that, multiplied a thousand times in order to be elected, because he knows he will be paid many times over (under the table and over the table) for knowing the good ol' boys who control the purse strings of industry and government and who, in the event of defeat, will make sure they are sitting on plush paying boards of directors. The politician and bureaucrat knows that he and his family will always be cared for through the craft and corruption which has grown like a virus in the American system of free enterprise.

In WWII, 70% of industrial production was from America, today it is only 20%. Through NAFTA, CAFTA, etc., industry has fled the US. OSHA, EPA, excessive taxation, regulation and, as Dr Russell Adcox of the Wharton School of Business has said, “No one wants to be a clog in the machine. Again, everyone wants to be a foreman and boss, where in foreign countries ordinary people are glad to get a paycheck for honest work.“ You will notice in your community with any type business or professional office most employees, and even professionals, are just going through the motions.

Spending by the Congress, state legislators, and even local governments is like an alcoholic on a binge. Those who have read my commentaries know I have traveled the the world (every continent, passport stamped in 157 countries). The difference in owning a home in America, democratic republic, compared to living in a communist country is like worthless fiat paper money. You have a paper deed showing you have ownership to your house but you never really own your house. Try not paying the ever increasing taxes on your house, your utilities, your insurance, even your homeowner association fees, and you will find that the government owns your house.

In America the slave takes all the responsibility of his house. In communist countries, as in housing projects where many Americans now live, the government owns the building and assumes all the responsibility. It is a better deal for you to “think” you own your house so you will assume the responsibility and take better care of it. 95% of all loans are FHA mortgages. As an example, with the new Obama inspired “cap and tax” provisions, you must have specific windows and doors so your house will meet certain government specifications insofar as environmental concerns, if you expect to get a permission label from the inspector in order to sell your house.

The best example I could ever show revealing the greed, graft and corruption involved in local government happened here in the county where I live. Every elected politician and bureaucrat puts his hand on the Bible and swears to uphold the Constitution and act in an honest manner. It was found that the head administrator of the local ABC board controlling retail liquor stores, is paid $342,000 a year. His son (his assistant) is paid $115,000 a year. On top of these salaries the board gave him a $30,000 bonus, his assistant son received a $20,000 bonus. One family (two people in the democrat trough) paid nearly half a million a year for managing a few liquor stores (39 employees). This shows the extent of graft and corruption in local government. $600,000 disappeared one year in North Carolina (mental health). It is reported billions have disappeared in the federal government. Yet this year Senator Boxer of California demands funds in health care legislation that women get abortion funds if men get funds for Viagra.

I speak as a totally blind, 100% disabled, service-connected veteran. The 100% disabled veteran, blind, cripple, gets less each month than a college ROTC student. Poison is in the well. Stark discrepancy can no longer be ignored, the “hope and change” Obama promising to bring the boys home. A man who has never fired a BB gun, but knows how to collect a peace prize, is sending thousands more of your brightest, best, to the most God forsaken area of the world that I have ever visited (including the depths of the Sahara): Afghanistan, and soon Pakistan. For those who return alive you not only pay for your country's posturing while in unpredictable environments during the war, but on coming back and trying to resume a normal life, you pay over again in taxes to support medieval activities in parts of the world with which you are totally unfamiliar.
