Paradoxes and Parables

#1780

"I'm in with the in crowd
I go where the in crowd goes
I'm in with the in crowd
And I know what the in crowd knows"

You can spend your life trying to make people understand something that they don't want to understand.  The great difference in our lives is the truth and the almost truth.  The most effective lie contains a measure of truth.  The track record of truth, in our lives, in the 21st century, everything that comes from government is a lie because everyone knows that popularity, personal progress, even advancements in position and wealth depends on political correctness AND, it is not just politicians and bureaucrats.  Now, corporations depend on employees polluting and pilfering with truth.  There was a time that you could write a letter of complaint and expect to get an answer form someone interested in your problem.  I challenge you, dare you, write a letter of complaint to any corporation, business, or politician and see if you even get a reply.  If they reply, it shows that they got the letter... became legally involved.  The entire business, political, professional world operates on the theory of non involvement as a protection against legal recourse and entanglements.  There are almost more lawyers now than clients... all out to make the big bucks.  The courthouse has become the "go-go market", every type legal "recourse" from ambiguities to antisocial behavior.

The greatest paradox in American life, and this has happened in my lifetime, 85 years, the difference in what it means to be free and what it means to be enslaved.  After 238 years of American History there is real lethargy in liberty.  Perhaps an even greater paradox, seeking normalcy in a very abnormal world.  Any government with power over the media, especially the talking boxes that can make you believe in absurdities can lead you to believe in atrocities.  The Christian offers up to God, everything about life.  Sicknesses, etc.  Your writer, world traveler,  has found that human nature is about the same the world over.  Technology has changed our lives but not our nature.  It grieves my soul to see the decadence of my country, my fellow countrymen, every psychologist, social arbitrator, modernistic theologian believe they have the answer.  Paradox of all paradoxes, normal active children controlled by drugs simply at the whim of a teacher or busy parent, same child later ostracized by the world because of their addictions to street drugs (and, alcohol as a drug).

The "scream" of the milliners, baby boomer's, healthcare, even the abomination of Obama Care, in spite of supplements, fitness programs, eating disorders and plans.  It never occurs to patients that 10% of all deaths come from misdiagnosis.  You are fortunate if a doctor even touches you.  At my own Internist Practice, (60 doctor's in one building) each doctor is limited to 7 minutes with a patient.  The word cure is no longer in the Lexicon...only treatment.  Big Pharma wants every citizen taking at least 2 or 3 prescribed drugs and, they want a continuous line of refills.  The only growth industry in America, the "sick care" industry.

As great dilemma paradox sin beyond human comprehension, abortion, the killing of the unborn.  Now, more recent, the actual selling of small human people's tissues and body parts.  Planned Parenthood, such a misnomer must be an embarrassment to creator God, while, at the same time, millions of dollars are raised each year by so called "do gooder" groups, over $22 billion in 2010, everything from neonatal survival to autism.  Little wonder that there is more suicide than ever, particularly among teenagers, veterans, even doctors.  That chasm in the soul of man, which only God can fill many attempt to fill with counterfeits.  Satan has always paid off with counterfeit.  We seek answers everywhere but the right place, the absolute truth revealed in God's word.

When I was a professional "healthcare" student in Memphis, 4 years, everyday I passed the famous Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, (since Danny Thomas, now called St. Jude's) where atrocious children's diseases were being discovered, treated and cured.  We do not hear much about cures for children anymore, just the abomination of abortion.  Can one think of any greater paradox than the careful birthing, raising, educating, of a child and then caring so little for the destruction of some other person's unwanted child?  Beyond contradiction, the greatest creation of creator God I cannot believe that God will hold faultless a nation, a world, that has killed those he chose to live, weather in war, or in the mother's womb.  There was a time when the electorate would have scoffed at someone running for President of The United States who would support the killing of the unborn and certainly the partial birth of a precious baby.  The paradox, is there any difference in the soul/mental attitude of President Obama and Dr. Kermit Gosnell?  Can you think of a greater paradox, the President of a Christian College, sitting across from this writer at lunch, telling me that he voted for President Obama?

We live in a paradox of token church membership, token checkbook love to church and other charities.

Think of this paradox.  Is there any greater cruelty from one human being to another than ignoring children, or even the elderly, spindly legs from starvation, or pulling the plug early at hospital in order to harvest organs from a terminal loved one?  I feel sure that the last thing many of our fellow citizens hear as they reach toward the portals of eternity, without anesthesia, that buzzing saw, as the harvesters open them up to gain access to their organs.

Charity

The earth is the LORD's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. (Psalm 24:1) And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. (1 Corinthians 13:13) Look at the literature, the world over, and you will not read greater words than these, relating to Christian living/giving.

Over the years, many cleaning women; one, upon seeing anything showing wear, a broom, mop, floormat, etc., would tell me, “you need a new _____.” One day I said to one of these well-meaning women, “if I replace something every time you say so, I would soon be as poor as you are.” I do not believe there was one farm implement on my father's large, well-equipped farm that was not bought second-hand (at an auction or from a second-hand store). He could look at a plow, planter, etc. and immediately tell how much useful life was left in it. He would bring home any type of used machinery, take it apart, clean it up, lubricate it, put on replacement parts and it would last forever. By getting maximum use from everything, you learn to save and are then able to give (charity). As he told me when I was a young boy, “when you have worked out a car, you will know how to take care of it.” My two computers were purchased second-hand. It is at government buildings, government schools that you find new, latest-style equipment. I hear all the time about computers at the schoolhouse purchased new every year, the same with government-owned vehicles.

America is in a depression which I surmise will make the Great Depression of my youth look like a cake-walk. Just yesterday, state-controlled news media was expecting 177,000 new private-sector jobs, there were 38,000 jobs. Most new jobs...federal, state, or local are government jobs. In order to pay these government workers, private industry must be taxed. The government punishes those private employers who do hire by taxes and regulations. In our flight toward one world government, globalism, totalitarianism, when the stimulus wears off (Mr. Obama's programs), the sobriety starts. The increased taxation, regulations of government paralyzes, and from the coma of controls, comes the realization that suicide was attempted but so far has not been successful.

There is not one person in the present administration with practical business experience. Mr. Obama has never run even a lemonade stand, knows nothing about the famine and frailty of running a business...risk, licenses, insurance, taxes of every description. Entrepreneurship is in our history, but will not be in our future. The men and women who started this country's great businesses in their garage, the pioneers, Edison, Gates, Monaghan, Colonel Sanders, Jobs, Dell, Zuckerberg, etc. these people will be hard to find, like those gallant warriors fighting disease and infirmity, eyes in books while friends are out partying, put into a kibosh of proletariat control under Obamacare and other communist systems. Who will fight the fight in spite of our well-honed American adeptness toward charity?

My father was a barber on the weekends. One preacher, man of God, told him once when he was getting his hair cut, “I want it trimmed just enough so that only you and I know that it has been cut.” My father said, “if he were not living off of God's money, had to get out and work hard every day like his congregation, he would want a haircut that would last for awhile.” The trouble with politicians, most pastors, most bureaucrats is laziness...it is easy to spend and live off of the money of others.

In a private business, you check your bank account every day, not only to make sure you can afford that day's business activity, but to make sure someone has not hacked his way into your account. Just today, someone from London hacked into my account and bought $200 worth of pornography. Another day, a university student on his first day on the job, used my password and account to order pornography to be delivered to his address. Another day, another employee, attempting to sell cars on my online auction account. No need of even reporting such thievery to the law enforcement, this is at the bottom of their “to-do” list.

Those in the halls of legislation, those who make the laws, will never have to live and work regulated by the laws they write. We actually think politicians, the parasites of society, will straighten out the mistakes they have made. National politicians are untouched by this depression, this economy. The best economy in America is in-and-around, Washington DC, (housing prices, jobs, etc).

It is as natural as breathing to become angry with God about unfairness, such as children being snatched from the arms of a mother during a storm as in Joplin, Missouri. These questions are as old as time. God does not wear a watch, does not own a calender, but will take care of everything in His own way, in His own time. He just expects us to trust, to obey in our living and our giving. You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving, the tithe is the Lord's whether you give it or not. He expects His tithes from the net, not the gross. You can be confident in the love and understanding of God. Faith is a verb, action based on belief, sustained by confidence.

It started in 1963 with an innocuous 21-word prayer, the US Supreme Court removed prayer from the public schoolhouse. Then, from sports; then, from graduation ceremonies, Bible studies from schools, Bibles removed from schools. At graduations, at school events, you can mention the names of anyone, Mao, Stalin, Jimmy Hendrix, Michael Jackson, anyone except Jesus Christ. America is afflicted by the victim psychology...50 million Americans on food stamps, more money owed on student grants and loans than is due on all credit cards. To demonstrate our mathematical skills, the total worth of the 300 largest US pension funds: $10 trillion dollars...our total national debt: $14.2 trillion.

59% of US citizens expect a government entitlement, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, military, civil-service, disability retirement. Never forget, we get by giving. Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. (Luke 6:38)

Ronnie

Gnawing at every fiber of my body, every neural pathway of my existence, if the human being is here in the image of God, if we are supposed to make a difference, if there is the type reward that Christians expect, why is the world in the condition it is in?

My ancestors were some of the first from England to the new world because of their religious convictions. I have inherited every one of their concern precepts, the first image I have in my mind as a child: my mother on her knees at the old family church, washing another saint's feet. In that church, built in 1874 by both my mother and father's great grandparents, the portrait of a distinguished old man. His name was John Henry Whorley, as a child I remember him preaching there, probably his last sermon before his death, a very old man. He brought out something that was as real then as it is today, that God points to ants in His Holy Word, as an example of what human beings should follow. The human being, 23,000 genome; the ant, far, far less. He pointed out that an ant colony took care of one another, prepared for hard times. I remember he pointed out that you put a drop of syrup on the table in the kitchen and before long you have a whole trail of ants, One had found something good, and soon others knew about it, and so it should be with God, Christ, our faith; if we are really serious about our lives and the lives of others, my soul and the soul of others.

I could not help but think, my family, and the many other families in that community, as well as the world community, who go past houses everyday of their lives in which people live who know nothing of the values that make life more livable, religious convictions and traditions, healthiness, discipline and discipleship. For many years of my young life, I would think of the children living on the very road where that church is located, never reached, or even approached by the church. At the schoolhouse, religion was precursory preemptive expectation, college and the military was not bothered by religion even though there was casual references to it, the do-gooder, be better syndrome. I was active my entire college and military career in the local church, but no one seemed to care very much, I was just unusual. I remember at the great Parker Memorial Church in Alabama, since I was not one of the “blue bloods” in town, I was giving the cold shoulder, especially by the other professional people in the church who seemed to be there as just a cover for their lifestyle, pretending, family habit, not really serious about anything but their own success.

I remember speaking at a small baptist church outside of town, a major general (two stars) retired, was in the audience. He said, “you are the first young army officer that I have encountered with a Christian testimony.” He further said, “I spent 35 years as an infantry officer, WWII, never once in all those years did a military chaplain say one thing to me about my soul.”

I can say without fear of contradiction, my many years in the military, never saw a chaplain in any activity except bobbing around with a cocktail glass at the officer's club. My encounters with most ministers of the Gospel has been a disappointing experience. I am sure there are many who have a real conversion, real salvation, real Christ in their life. Religion and church has become so sanitized, organized, rationalized, God convicts through His book, the manufacturer's handbook, which answers every question one ever wants to know about anything. His word is forever settled in heaven. (Psalm 119:89) He honors His Word more than anything else. I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name. (Psalm 138:2) The problem with most Christians, most churches, enough time is not spent with His Word, if the Christians of the world really believed God's Word, the world would have been changed long ago, and we would certainly not be in the mess we are in today.

We have the mistaken impression that we can just put some money in the collection plate, in the Salvation Army kettle, a civic club project of some sort, and we have done our part. There are 1,300 United Way collection points for giving in order to relieve suffering in the world; the second largest charity, the Gates Foundation. If you cannot measure what you want, you do not want what you can measure. There is so much need in the world that we cannot measure it, nor do we actively try to do anything about that which we can measure, there is too much need in the world for an entrepreneur. Most philanthropists collect less than $500,000 a year, we have found, much to our sorrow that this money, so accessible, so unaccounted for, disappears down the black hole of greed. The national president of the Red Cross gets $500,000 a year, The national president of the United Way gets $1 million a year, it is a Christian embarrassment about televangelists and many religious charities.

I have a great interest, not only in the souls of mankind, not only their spiritual needs, but their physical needs as well. What happens to the large percentage of children who do not graduate from high school, the children from single parent homes, the children caught up in the gay agenda, sex slaves on the streets, we read about these things, but have no idea about the real story.

I got a glimpse of human depravity talking with young girls and young men from abuse and want, who had entered the military services. Most of us have no idea about the baggage so many young people carry around. When you talk with them, you can only imagine what is going on in their mind, what they have experienced, the distrust they have for everyone. I learned early, that those who have been unable to trust people whom they can touch, have much difficulty trusting one who is supernatural, praying to, or believing in an inanimate spirit.

I have found that most people do not want to hear the answers to many questions, “the truth hurts”. God wanted me to see conditions around the world, sent me on many round-the world trips, exposed me to life on every level. He blessed me so I could afford a home in New York City as well as in North Carolina, and it was in New York City, completely away from everyone who knew me, that I found the answer to many of these questions for which everyone should be interested.

The first apartment I owned in Manhattan was on Beekman Place, one of the most exciting streets in the city, on the East River. This apartment was on the corner right across the townhouse of Irvine Berlin, across from the South Korean consulate, near the home of Helen Hayes. It was indeed, the supreme transitory existence for this country boy.

About this time Irwin Shaw had written his book, along with the movie, Rich Man, Poor Man, most people with whom I have shared this, which I am sharing with you, have told me that I am crazy. At that time almost totally blind, flickering in and out of New York's richest and poorest postulant properties. One day, I would be in tux at a fancy United Nations soiree, the next day I would be in worn clothing talking with vagrants on the street at a cheap movie house, or questionable bar about their life experiences and what would happen to them at death. Some just thought I was just a crazy, old fundamentalist evangelical, most were fascinated by my life, my interest in them, that someone in this world really cares. I always had religious tracks, often would take someone who was hungry, to a fast food place to eat. I tried to never let them know about my disability. In all the years, only one or two were ever taken to my apartment. These apartment houses, the two in which I lived (12 Beekman Place, 136 East 56th), full-time doormen, elevator men, fresh cut flowers in the lobby, and I had beautiful, well-appointed homes.

I am talking about Ronnie, because he was one who I brought to my apartment, he had the mental agility, the trustworthiness, that he could assist me with cleaning and shopping. Ronnie lived in Spanish Harlem, one of ten children, he was either 17 or 18 at the time I met him, begging on the street. He told me that his entire life, 12 in the family, most meals, 1 dozen eggs, 1 loaf of bread, each person had an egg sandwich. His own father had impregnated all his sisters, he told me about other people who lived in the tenement, about a child in an apartment next to theirs, totally mentally deranged, at home, all day, alone. At night when the father came home, he would hold him out the window and tell him he would drop him if he made a sound while the father was at home.

In order to live, Ronnie had pushed the envelope about as far as he could in every direction. He had been sent to a cooking school which he liked very much, but because of his background, could not get a job. From what I could tell, he was an attractive young men, and have been hit on by the gays in New York, which had turned him against most men, and having seen the decadence of his mother and sisters, was totally against women. In fact, he was mentally antagonistic toward everything in life, like most of these Spanish and blacks in Harlem, he had been baptized into the Catholic church. The entire matter of Christianity, religion was just an unnatural mystery to him.

Ronnie liked music, other than buying food and giving money for pressing needs, I never let any of these desperate people believe that I had money. I did give Ronnie an electric keyboard for Christmas. He was totally amazed that someone would do something for him, asking nothing in return. As I found with so many young people, tossed around by the world in the sea of life, very intelligent, quick learner. I would have him come by about once a week to help me with my house. When in New York, it was obvious that he wanted to spend more time with me, and since I was in New York just one week, each month, I only saw him about once or twice a month.

One day, much to my surprise, he showed up at my home in North Carolina, he had taken the bus from New York, and then walked from the bus station to my house. I will never forget what he said, “you are the only person who has ever been nice to me. You need help, I would like to work for you.” The fact of the matter is, he could do nothing, he could not drive for me, the projects in which I was involved at the time, he knew nothing about. I was restoring a large building on Oleander Avenue, a former famous restaurant which I was restoring into a night club building. I had some people working for me, someone driving for me. After one day, I told him that he was just in the way, that he should go back to New York, I gave him money for the bus, honestly I had done everything I could for this young man, and never saw him again.

I had introduced him to Christianity, I had encouraged him to take advantage of the opportunities which this country offers. I had told him that if he could not find work, he should go into the military service because he had the intelligence, health, desire to make something of his life. This is just one young person who I encountered with experience, experiment in Christian missionary zeal, there were many others. As my acquaintances who have heard about my work, but have no desire to do any missionary work of their own. Who I have told that the God that I worship is quite able and capable of protecting me, giving me the mission and message with no strings attached. The answer, not once, ever, in my pursuing the answers to my questions and bringing the message of redemption and life to those who would listen, did I ever encounter anyone, from any church, any mission, actually working among those who need it most, on a one-to-one basis.

A more recent experience, in one of my rental properties, in which a young man was living. One day when I was checking on another property, he said to me, “I have really made a mess of my life. How have you kept yours so together?” As most Christians, I made the mistake of inviting him to go to church with me, instead of dealing with him on a one-to-one basis. The hardest work in the world is in dealing with another person's soul. It is so much easier to take the person to your place of worship and hope that they will find their answer there, that something will rub off on them.

I said to him, “I will be by to get you Sunday morning to go to church.” It was about a three block walk for me, I knocked on his door with my white cane, of course, he had forgotten. I said, “get ready, I am waiting for you.” He did not have a suit, but he was clean, and his clothes were clean, it was about a two-block walk then to the church (First Baptist Church, Wilmington NC). As he sat beside me in that liberal, pretending church, I thought what would my mind reflect on if I had never been to a protestant church before. When we left, I said to him, “what do you think?” He said, “it was the saddest place I have ever been.”

My first phone call after I had returned to my house, one of the older ladies at the church, she said, “Doctor, who was that young man with you at church this morning?” I said, “he was one of my tenants, he really needs to be in church.” She said, “doctor, you know we like for our men to wear suits to church, dark blue or brown. Now, you know how to dress, you are always dressed well.”

Whether Ronnie, Robert, or anyone else in America, or anywhere else on this earth, the problem and the answer has always been the same. God gave it to us on both sides of the cross: love one another.

Shocking Isn't It

Keep these facts in mind when "donating".

As you open your pockets for yet another natural disaster, keep these facts in mind:

Marsha J. Evans, President and CEO of the American Red Cross... Salary for year ending 06/30/03 was $651,957 plus expenses. (That's $74.42 an hour For EVERY hour of EVERY day.)

Brian Gallagher, President of the United Way receives a $375,000 base salary, plus numerous expense benefits. (That's $42.80 an hour for EVERY Hour of EVERY day.)

UNICEF CEO receives $1,200,000 per year plus all expenses and a ROLLS ROYCE car where ever he goes and only cents of your dollar goes to the cause. (That's $1369.86 an hour for EVERY hour of EVERY day.)

The Salvation Army's Commissioner Todd Bassett receives a salary of only $13,000 per year (plus housing) for managing this $2 billion dollar organization.

No further comment necessary.

Addition by Dr. Morris:

Yesterday was Thanksgiving Day, a day first set aside by George Washington for “thanks giving”. A national holiday giving glory to God for His benefits. Today, is black Friday, when normal American citizens make fools of themselves, getting up real early, going to stores, trying to find bargains, things, most of the time, things they do not need.

This totally blind, 100% disabled, service-connected, medical officer veteran of the Korean conflict spent Thanksgiving Day listening to radios, people talking about eating, feeding the homeless, feeding prisoners. There is nothing wrong about feeding our armed forces, feeding prisoners, feeding the homeless, as long as we keep everything in perspective.

In this long line of ludicrous salaries for CEOS of “do-gooder” organizations, which are supposed to be in servitude for a cause, I want to add the Audubon Society, those interested in bird-life. The President of the Audubon Society gets $180,000 a year. This group rented office space from me, in all my rentals, over many years, it was the first time it was necessary to completely redo a building, including replacing the carpet.

I have one policy in contributing to these do-gooder organizations: IF they live better than I do, they should not expect me to give my money. IF they do not have the same moral fortitude that I have, they should not expect my money. IF they have not given as much as I have, to God and country, they should not expect a contribution from me. I am so tired of people who get these big jobs, however they get them, do-gooder groups, politicians, pastors, who are supposed to be in servitude for a cause, but just use that cause to live better than the rest of us.

The goodness and kindness of God leads one into a path of servitude, spiritual or physical. Just as salvation is His choice, not our choice, so we should feel that working for a cause, whether it is the welfare of birds (Audubon), people in distress (Red Cross), community development (United Way), faith in God should determine our passion, just as God's Word revives a dead soul.

So many civic, political, spiritual, people and groups have forgotten their mission. Do we actual think the saints, martyrs of our faith, could actually be paid for their commitment or devotion, they knew that life was in giving and even dying for a cause. There is no resurrection, no redemption without death to self. Take two kernels of corn, totally dead, plant them in your yard, in the good earth. When these dead kernels (but with the passion of life inside, dead soul) sprout, give them water, make sure of enough sunlight. The ears of corn from these two plants (thousands of kernels), planted in fields, those in turn planted in fields, exponentially for seven years, would soon have enough corn plants to feed the world, much could be done with money honestly, sacredly given, if it were not for the greed involved by those who have their hands in the management.
