Darwinian Segregation

I'll go where you want me to go, dear Lord,
Over mountain or plain or sea;
I'll say what you want me to say, dear Lord;
I'll be what you want me to be.

Mary Brown

Truth is not new, the Gospel is not new, and, in the bottomless ocean of technology, people still want truth. Basic truth, we came from God and we are going back to Him. There is a very thin line which separates the saved from the unsaved, those who trust in God and those who do not. I often wonder which side many are on, it is hard to tell the difference... language, dress, attitudes, values. I have known so many innocent Christians, check list Christians, they don't do this, they do do that. Most have never known the true joy and mercy of God. Too many Christians, too many churches are like the giant locomotive, so powerful, so full of steam, only powerful when some mere man with a grease can lubricates just the right part.

This writer "can produce" relatives who could shout-stomp-waive limbs at a ball game, but were so completely emotionless at the church when hearing the greatest news in the world preached. In one stale-staid "mainline" church here in this city, one old lady became so filled with the spirit of God, one Sunday morning, after a great anthem and great sermon, she finally could not control herself any longer and just came out with the words "Praise God." An usher came to her and said, "We do not do that here."

For many years, Martha represented UNC-CH, attracting alumni in their giving towards the great school. She is responsible for all of the wonderful articles written about me, emanating from Chapel Hill. We had many wonderful conversations over lunch. The last time she was here, she had infiltrated gang activity in the city of Durham, attempting to bring the Christian message to gang members. The last words I ever heard from Martha, "Tom, God loves those gang members just as much as He loves you." I know that God loves gang members just as He loves government workers, but God loves me more because I trust Him and show my trust by my life, in my life, my habits, my faith in His marvelous grace.

One lawyer told me that gang tattoos do not seduce a jury. Religious tattoos do not influence God. All Christians should be weeping in the valley of tears for gang members, abortionists, and a broken culture-profane mankind who have brought "despite" (contempt) to the spirit of grace. "Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? (Hebrews, 10:29).

Often, when in a hotel, eating alone, this world traveler will be invited over to another person's table. One night, Switzerland, an older couple invited me to their table to join them. Later she said, "I know you think at our age we have been married for a long time... but we are newly weds. We both lost our companions and we are now happily married." BUT, the husband said, "We were taught that Jesus was the only perfect man in the world, but there was another perfect man, my new wife's first husband." Very few people have ever understood the human mind. Albert Einstein said everyone sits in the prison of his old ideas. Most church members want God in their image, not them made in the image of God. In recent years, government schools, obedient trance from the television screen, everyone politically correct. Young people with whom I have come in contact with have decided our early American patriot ancestors were terrorists. That the Bible, God's word, is racist, that Christians are bigots. Most of us, believers and nonbelievers, are just going through the motions, wanting to live life just inside the line, on "easy street." My ancestors never took holidays, vacations, never thought about retirement.

Early in my private practice, and I was one of the early eye specialists in contact lenses, a man came to me from LaGrange, NC, wanting me to prescribe certain contact lenses, which would enable him to see markings on playing cards that others could not see so that he could win big at the casinos in Las Vegas. Was he any different from the rest of us... just edging across the line. How different would I have been in assisting him across the line. After all, my family-associates-friends would have admired me much more if I had made big money illegally. This man's friends-family would have admired him much more if he had made big money illegally at the casino. Most of us did not win life's lottery, life has been tough. Our country has made us indentured servants because of taxation-regulations and controls.

It is so easy to become bitter-depressed. Satan knows our weaknesses, how hard education, even success, has come to many of us. We know the price we have paid in the military service... that rank always had its privileges. It has been the enlistees from poor homes who paid the price. This was the only job they could get. I still remember the night that a army hospital commander, simply because of his rank killed a four-star general because the commanding officer did not know what he was doing, had not treated a patient in years, but because of his rank took over the patient. The young medical officer from the ghetto who had struggled through school, was a good doctor, attending to the general, said to me, "Watch him kill him." Of course the canons were roaring, the soldiers were standing at attention as the general's casket on a horse drawn caisson proceeded to the army post's chapel. The general's widow went into the funeral service on the arm of the hospital commander.

Learn early that Darwin did not define fairness in animal life, in the survival of the fittest. We have been slow in treating the cancer of indifference. You can't do much about aggressive cancer. You can treat slow cancer. Like a brilliant young man who could have won a scholarship to any university, succeeded in any field of study, said to me with great pride, "Preaching the truth of the Gospel is the only thing worth while for my life."

God's Biochemistry

Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe (Cor, 1:20-21).

Unbelief is the basis of all atheism, weak-pitiful mankind depending on self instead of depending on God. Most of the people I know want God in their image instead of them in the image of God. Christians beaten down by a pagan world, God becomes an antiquated idea. Even the inconceivability of real men having real wives and children. No one, even the wildest science fiction writer could have convinced my parents-grandparents that in this writer's lifetime, people of the same sex would get married, some in a church. Most of the people I know have their hand on the doorknob of the door of faith but never open the door enjoying the grace, salvation of the Creator of the universe. " I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was" (John, 17:4-6).

Aldous Huxley's, Brave New World said we will teach people to love their slavery. For the 21st century Christian, those whom you would change, you must first learn to love and you must let them know that you love them. This applies to the physician, the pastor, the professor and most of all to the parent.

There is nothing like the power of images in changing people. Truly, "one picture is worth a thousand words." You cannot understand the horrors of abortion until you have seen one. In another article, I have described my images when I saw an abortion in the operating room of a United States army hospital where I was on staff... those little hands, little feet taken from the womb of a "mother." In my lifetime, when I was in school, we were embarrassed to even speak of abortion. Now, people sneeze and wheeze toward any healthcare facility, wanting an antibiotic or drug for anything. I can tell you that all today's major diseases were unheard of just 60 years ago: Cancer, Parkinson's, Diabetes, Autism, Vascular Diseases (the greatest cause of death), etc.

Like your automobile garage, like shopping for everything, eBay, Amazon, etc. life's activities have become a recipe book, your a slave of nanotechnology. Your doctor, he is more a dunce than a dynamo, spends more time with his hands on his computer keys than he does your body. For him, it is simply a matter of symptoms here-drugs there. When did your doctor ask you what you eat, nutrition. No one talks of cures, only treatments. In Europe, 50% of the population will die of Cancer. Just recently, the Society of Oncology in Spain, stated that 50% of all babies are born with cancer (Sputnik International, 2015). We were not there when 5,000 Jews were gassed in the death chambers at Auschwitz every few hours, everyday. Some do not believe that this Holocaust actually happened, but we are here now, when 3,000 babies are aborted each day. The Holocaust of OUR lifetime (56 million since the infamous Supreme Court decision of 1973). Just this week, I am celebrating the birth of my first great grandchild (Olivia, 8 pounds, 4 ounces). Her precious parents, grandparents, great grandparents so happy over this precious child. In 1964, Psychiatrist Eric Berne wrote the book Games People Play. This writer is so tired of people playing games... just going through the motions, whether "sick care", patriotism, political deceit or pretenders in the pulpit or pew.

I have written at length about my online selling activity. I started many years ago with marvelous items I have brought back from world travels (Dr. Morris has made 8 around the world trips, traveled every continent, passports stamped in 157 countries). I then sold my Civil War and large antiquarian book collections. Able to employ college students, etc., we enjoy going to yard sales, thrift stores, where we buy items which we can sell for profit... raw capitalism. Money from this business as well as my other enterprises has helped me to help others with college scholarships, church progress, no secret to anyone.

This past Saturday, one of my assistants told me there was a church yard sale to benefit Haiti (Grace Baptist Church, Highway 40, Wilmington, NC). The sale was held in the large church's fellowship hall. In the past, I have met members of that congregation, an independent Baptist church. I do not sit in judgment of anyone, certainly not a church, but I was amazed-surprised that my driver and I walked through the facility where much "stuff" was displayed (none of which I could resell) and not one person in that large hall spoke to us, not even to a "Good Morning." (More amazing, since it was cold, I was wearing my veterans cap, medical caduceus, rank, patches showing DAV-Korea, etc.) I was wearing a very nice overcoat. On all my coats-jackets, I wear a Christian cross. I want everyone to know whose side I am on. As my only child, son, PHD, Seminary Professor said after I told him about the incident, "low hanging fruit" (Psalm, 92).

That day, at the next yard sale, I was immediately recognized as the blind doctor who talks on the radio (Lieutenant Colonel Morris is a totally blind, 100% disabled, service connected, 85 year old Medical Officer Veteran). The matter I am trying to impress, God is honored by our Christian attitude-testimony, even in a church facility. As a poet said, "If iron rusts, what do you expect gold to do?"

The writer has two grandsons, an attorney and an engineer. Like their Seminary Professor father and his wife, both former SBC foreign missionaries all living in Fort Worth, Texas, were here visiting me. I invited several people to lunch. One pastor sitting across from me, while the grandsons were on either side of me said, "I hope you boys are as great as he thinks you are", talking about me. I wish, in God's Biochemistry, he could instill in me and others, the greatness he expects.

After my mother's death, my driver would drive my car up into the countryside to visit my father, still living at the home place. My driver, would say every time, "He will be sitting on the front porch watching for you", and so he was, waiting and watching. We would take him out to eat, visit some relatives, etc. My prayer, from a very imperfect man, people who profess will not have those who possess watching and waiting for them. Whether patients, patrons, parents, mechanics or even matrons who know how to flex the computer keys. The Christian life is not complicated, just demanding and tough. Faith is 90% raw courage, the courage to fight battles even though the war has been won.

Big Boys Don't Cry

One of my cousins spoke to me recently about my youngest brother's tears at my mother's funeral. He was born after her other three children were grown, when she was 40. While he was growing up, he and my parents were pals...she went with him to all of his ball games, etc. She died two weeks after he graduated from college. Dying with cancer, there are few tears at a time of such relief, for most of her family and friends.

One of my doctor friends took me into his office at a local veterans hospital and said, “I haven't cried in a long time, but I cried recently when I saw what had happened by military doctors to a young man who had come back from the war in Afghanistan. He had not gotten the care he deserved, his aunt brought him here to me, wounds still draining. Not even a regimen of antibiotics, we will be lucky to save his life.” I have personally shed tears over and with patients. The shortest verse in the bible is “Jesus wept.” (John 11:35)

There is nothing wrong with a man crying, I have known people to shed crocodile tears over fornicators acting on screen, millionaire ballplayers losing a game, but at a time when the world is rapidly going over the cliff, real men should shed some tears...losses politically, spiritually, morally from which we will never recover.

A local black woman called me on the phone, “Dr. Morris, I have heard you on the radio many times. I need to talk with you, it will only take about ten minutes.” When she came by, she told me that as a girl of thirteen, she had been raped by her stepfather...a local black pastor. She had given birth to the baby boy and her aunt had taken the boy to Michigan where members of her aunt's family had raised him. She had never seen this child, but now at the age of 23, the child had learned about his biological mother in North Carolina, and wanted to come see her. She said, “I am married with a family, I had put this entire matter out of my life. I had certainly put the boy's biological father out of my life, just as I have put the church out of my life. I despise all black preachers, but I know this boy will want to know the truth about his father. What do you advise me to do?” I told her to tell the boy the truth, every man is able to handle the truth. I feel sure, knowing that you were raped, he will want nothing to do with his biological father, but he has a right to know the truth.

A very responsible, well known white woman came to me about a similar situation, her daughter, a freshman in college, had been raped after being drugged at a party on the beach. She said, “my husband wanted me to take her for an abortion.” I told him, “I would not compound evil with evil.” The daughter was not even sure of the biological father...just a haze of memory. The mother said, “I talked with my sister living in Boston for several hours, she came down immediately and took my daughter back to Boston, where she eventually gave birth to a beautiful daughter.” She said, “never let evil compound evil. This child was in every way perfect, even though a child of rape. She was beautiful, intelligent, she was a joy to the entire family, even though I have never let the local, nosy people know anything about the situation, as far as they knew, my daughter transferred to college in Boston, and she has continued to live there.”

She said, “the reason I want to talk to you is because of your pro-life writing, the fact that so many pro-life people think that abortion is excused in a case of rape. The horror of abortion, the taking of an innocent life is never justified, even with rape.” From inception, it is God-given life, and the children of rape, as are all children, are blessings of God. Weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5). This is the psalm that was read in the first meeting of Congress in 1774.

The French philosopher Blaise Pascal said, “even though the existence of God cannot be determined through reason, a person should wager as though God exists, because living life accordingly has everything to gain, and nothing to lose.” With God, everything is present tense, “I am”, all he asks is trust. Today is tomorrow that never came, don't depend on tomorrow, you only have today, if you are lucky. Many people put on their socks this morning and a mortician will take them off tonight.

The most generous, prosperous people in the world are Christian believers, among the pagans, the heathens, you do not find much generosity. It was the Christians who built the first universities: Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Duke, etc. It was Christians who built the first great hospitals, childrens homes, homes for the disabled and elderly. How many cathedrals, temples, hospitals, colleges have been built by atheists?

I have two of the historian Josephus's early books. Josephus said that before Christianity, there was little generosity in the world. He said the Romans, who were ruling during Christ's ministry were the most self-centered people in the world. It was the early Christians who gave to the needy, not only one another, but even to the Romans.

You cannot separate giving from Christianity, giving of the wealth of which you have been blessed, giving of your talent of which you have been blessed, giving of your time of which you are blessed. Selfishness is the most natural act of humanity, every child is born self-centered: “mine mine mine”. You do not have to teach a child to sin, to be self-indulged. Dr. Samuel Johnson said, “friendship should be kept in repair. Everything decent about life and living should be kept in repair.” Small children whose judgment skills have not been fully developed will often cry with the breaking of a toy. Young girls will often cry with the breaking of a heart, over some boy whose name they later cannot remember.

When you realize that your grandchildren will be paying interest on a national debt which is now increasing at a rate of 3.87 billion dollars a day, 3000 babies are being killed everyday (1500 black), and the world is in the worst economic condition in the past 100 years, old men with good sense will weep over losses which we never be regained.
