Mortar and Pestle

I have already sold my large collection of mortars and pestles. This is the equipment used by the pharmacist (in England, chemist), in the drug store to triturate a prescription. One mortar and pestle from Afghanistan was a beautiful brass, one from Asia was a beautiful marble, others wonderful and collectible in their own special way. In the mortar, the pestle ground up the chemicals, a thorough mixing.

In this world of political correctness, separation has become enigmatic to the past. Since the Republicans are in charge in the new congress, the Democrats want everyone sitting together, perhaps holding hands, as they listen to the State of the Union message. Liberated women were not satisfied until our military units were thoroughly integrated, now they want women at the battlefront along with the gays, the cross-dressers, and anything else which can assure our defeat.

God started separating things at the very beginning of Creation, light from darkness. He has certainly seen the tares take over His church. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.(2 Corinthians 6:17) Today's church has lost its power because it has been taken over by the world. The conservative political party has lost its power because it has been taken over by the compromisers. When will we learn that cancer cells will destroy good tissue, that typhoid fever cannot coexist with health. The conservative learned long ago, that conservation is a mindset, you cannot be conservative in one thing, liberal in another.

I learned conservation, stinginess, frugality, early in life. I remember standing a room in which my grandmother's casket was located. 80 years later, it is still the most beautiful funeral I ever witnessed. My grandmother always wore a beautiful brooch, the brooch was always pinned on her dress, now it was pinned on her shroud. One of my great aunts put a corsage on my grandmother and told the funeral director in no uncertain terms, “make sure that brooch is removed when the casket is closed the last time.” My own mother wore that brooch, and then my sister, nor did we ever throw away food, clothing, scrap material from the making of clothing (scrap material was used in the making of bed quilts). We did not trot to the doctors office for any little thing. For leg cramps, we used magnesium, for burns we used yellow mustard, for stomach trouble, we used charcoal, remedies that are as good today as they were then.
In the new world order, global dynamo which is taking over the globe, Big Pharma, Big Farming, Big Industry, will do what abortion and eugenics have been unsuccessful in doing so far. With the greatest floods in history in Australia, Brazil, Israel (world's largest food producers), we can expect to see food shortages by April of this year. Remember, there is only enough food in the local grocery stores to last for three days, most food is hauled in by big trucks. As in the case of bio or nuclear disaster, there will be no trucks on the highways.

There was a movie in 1995 called Clueless, I am convinced that the world is clueless about today's problems...climate changes, almost weekly catastrophes, earthquakes, tornadoes, blizzards, hurricanes, etc. To the spoiled, indulged, lazy technology generation, things will never be the same again, as they were, even 20 years ago, one cannot live in a fairy tale except for so long, even the hibernating animal must awaken to reality.

The drug addict, the alcoholic is trying to escape. The alcoholic respects age, only when it comes out of a bottle (Ancient Age, Vat 69, 200 proof). Alcoholism as a disease, is given little significance, since we know it is a neurosis. When I was in Tunisia the first time, Yasser Arafat, was still in Tunis, the gay politician with his blonde German boys, a source of comment in diplomatic circles. Clueless, the Arabs on the west bank accepted he and his perversions without realizing what it was doing to them as a people. Today, that is all over, he is dead, and his “wife” and other assistants living in splendor in European hotels on the American tax dollar. Now as usual, another Tunisian official, as did Idi Amin, and other international tyrants, has fled to their haven, Saudi Arabia. So it is with international intrigue and mixups.

In Shakespeare's play Macbeth, witches danced around a cauldron pot, throwing in things which made the pottage in the pot more exciting. Has mankind reached the place that our only excitement comes from the passion of seeing the world as mixed up as it can possible get without destroying itself.

Between the Lines

"Welcome to My World"  Jim Reeves

     Welcome to my world
     Won't you come on in?
     Miracles, I guess
     Still happen now and then

     Step into my heart
     Leave your cares behind
     Welcome to my world
     Built with you in mind

It is so important to learn early in life, as we observe the multitalented, multi-featured, fellow human-beings around us, attempt to understand the thoughts and actions of others.  Each person has his own experiences, feelings, mind history.  We can never know the baggage that our fellow man carries around.  Native Americans are very different from most of us, our Puritan ancestors, even the more recent arrivals of immigrants, were and are very different from us...each has a heritage of their own.

In recent years, governments have been besieged by some "do-gooders" who want the statues-memorials of those with whom they do not agree, taken down or destroyed.  One UK university, Oxford, wants the statue of Cecil Rhodes taken down, even though this one man gave so much money towards education...the same group wants the statue of David Livingston taken down because they are not Christian believers.  In Rome, there is the statue of an emperor, hailed as a hero by Romans, people who would never consider the thousands that perished at his whim.  We will never know the mental guidelines of other people, great or small.  In communist China and Taiwan (Ancient Formosa), this world-traveler was stupefied at the antiquarian Chinese relics transported to Taiwan (filling caves) by dictators, Generalissimo and Madame Chiang Kai-shek retreating to that island, as one hundred million coolies were slaughtered in the Communist Revolution.  They considered things (ancient art, ancient parchments, etc) more important than their human-being subjects.  Even the town where I live, an old southern port city, so many of our historical "prize" buildings, constructed by black, slave labor.  In between some intricate brain functioning, how long will it be between historical preservation and social experimentation BEFORE the same caustic "do-gooders" will want these buildings torn down?  They already have a thorn in their flesh about any flag with which they do not agree.   Most of these people think that history started the day they were born.  There is no recluse for objectivity in the liberal-socialistic mind, no room for compromise between the lines.

Most evangelicals cannot understand Roman Catholic traditions...bowing to a statue-transubstantiation.  The Catholic cannot understand the anointing of the Buddhist with saffron on the forehead.  The Buddhist cannot understand the ashes on the Catholic forehead. Perhaps the most evident between the lines thought process in the human mind, traditions-holidays-religious security.

The most complex creation of creator God, the complex brain of man.  How does some DNA transfer from one generation to another enabling descendents a superior ability to carve wood or stone?  One human-being to have the hand-eye coordination to marvelously play an instrument, to intricately use a scalpel in surgery while, there are those whose minds between the lines of good and evil result in rage-robbery-rape.  And then, there are those who possess the intangibles...abilities in dancing, weaving, engineering.

In Africa, wealth is determined not by what a person possesses but by what he gives away.  We are surrounded by grabbers and givers, governed and rebellient.

The talking box, a costumed world has convinced many that advertisements are real.  People don't live as depicted, between the lines in TV sitcoms.  Food does not look like that in the pictures of gourmet magazines.  We lie to keep from hurting someone's feelings.   Don't be more specific in lying than necessary, this is what we consume with political correctness.  You can deodorize-glamorize anything-rage-robbery by politicians-reasoning of the business man.

He may be trimming hedges next door.  She may sit next to you on a plane.  Even your family, friends, associates, may hide their inner conflicts, their jostlings between the lines.  JUST REMEMBER, WE ALL HAVE THEM.  The theme of the entire bible is God.  Some use God to beat us up, some use God for that ever present ever lasting arm.  Not one can understand or measure God.  Bildad's last words to Job, "You are a worm."

This blind writer cannot throw away all his thoughts of integrity, not believing the justice of God.  The words come to me over and over again, do not seek wisdom in your own eyes. (Proverbs 3:7)  Wisdom is beyond understanding.  The time honed image of yourself, keep between the lines.  Not all of us can put things in mental trash cans where they belong, escape with cover up-witticisms- just laughing at everything.

The greatest news of the universe, not that you love God but that God loves you.

Conscience-Technology and Common Sense                                      # 1802

Did you ever hear the dream of Gutenberg?

(George Everard, "The Importance of Reading" 1885)
Did you ever hear the dream of Gutenberg? He was just about to put forward his invention of the printing press, and it seemed to him as if an angel came and spoke to him:
"John Gutenberg, you have made your name immortal--but at what a cost! Think well what you are doing! The ungodly are many more than the godly. Your work will but multiply their blasphemies and lies. You have uncovered the bottomless pit--and a swarm of seducing spirits shall henceforth come out and turn earth into Hell. Oh think of millions of souls corrupted by your achievement. See the poison of fiends distilled into the souls of boys and girls, making them old in the experience of sin! See that mother weeping over her depraved son, and that grey-haired father hiding his face from his daughter's shame. Destroy your press, for it shall be the pander of blasphemy and lust! Destroy it, and forget it! Forbear, by multiplying the resources of the wicked, to make yourself through all ages the partaker of their crimes!"
We are all aware that the dream has had a very sorrowful fulfillment. Amidst the vast amount of printed matter sent forth daily, it is to be feared that the evil sadly exceeds the good. None can tell how the minds of multitudes are corrupted by the publications that they peruse. Therefore, my friend, be careful what you read!

Give heed as to what you read. If you knew that on the table there were poisoned dishes, as well as food that was wholesome and nourishing--you would be on your guard, and touch nothing about which you were doubtful. Just so, exercise wise forethought as to the books and magazines you take up and peruse.

It is true that "as a man thinks in his heart, so is he." But it is no less true that as a man reads--so very much will he think. Mind, memory, conscience, imagination, will, affection--all will be influenced by that which you read.

The questionable novel, with its picturing of the worst passions of the soul, as is too often the case--ought not to be devoured as if it would leave no bad impression behind. I know quite well, that we all need recreation, but it is not genuine recreation to spend hour after hour pouring over that which is trashy, nonsensical, and worse--and will only unfit you for anything higher and holier.

Personal Inventory

It is the second decade of the 21st century. Those of us who have been around for a long time need to take a personal inventory pertaining to our optimism for the future. I had just turned eight years of age when my grandmother Morris died. The wonderful things I knew about her had just been emphasized by those who knew her much longer. She was from one of the first families of the state, the Lucas family of Wilson county, prominent landowners. I can only remember two deaths before hers, hers was the first showing of “old family class”, a huge service in large family church. I had never seen a beautiful casket and flower arrangements before.

At that time in history, the body was always brought back to the family home, and people came in to pay their respects. My grandparent's family home was on main street in town. I remember having eased back into the living room to take a look at the beautiful setting. I heard two ladies, women I did not know, not family members, standing by the casket...I remembered my grandmother as a vibrant, imposing personality, well-educated for her day, able to handle any situation...one of the women said, “if only she had more love and less fear.”

We are told 365 times in God's Word not to fear. But in uncertain times, in an uncertain world, up against Satan, the world, and the flesh, it is difficult not to fear. Having seen the realities of life, knowing the hardships of family life in that time in history, she probably never had the comfort of complacency. The harbor is very comfortable for those who have never been out in the storm. Today's Christian extends the Christian faith as far as the worship sanctuary...sitting in a comfortable, air-conditioned building, soft-light from expensive stained-glass windows, anthems from trained voices and expensive, soothing instruments, seminary-trained words from one of sartorial splendor who exercises care that no one's feelings are abused. All just blind, deaf, dead “hearers” of the Word, the speaker wants laughing and clapping, agreement and love.

Her father, elder P.T. Lucas (this writer gives two Elder P.T. Lucas pastoral awards of $3,000 each to two NC pastors each year, selected by their denomination) who had survived the Civil War, raised twelve children, and traveled the state in horse and buggy establishing churches while dragging crippled arthritic limbs. He was finally bed-ridden for one year before death, although leaving behind an estate for each child.

One of his daughters, Aunt Sadie had owned one of the more beautiful homes in the state near her father (my great grandfather): beautiful flowers, lawns extending to the highway. As was the case with Madeline Mary O'Hare, lawyer from Austin TX and one of the most famous atheists in the world. In both cases, a firm believer and a firm non-believer, people who did not agree with them would drive over their lawns, destroying their property. My grandmother, like others of her time, knew the disparagement of the political system, locally and otherwise. Life was hard and just like today, Satan's followers were riding high. Satan is a cruel slavemaster, but she, like my other grandmother, and women before them knew that there is no slavery like that of the liberated or non-liberated woman. When Christ lived, all women were just slaves...my grandmothers were not allowed to vote until 1920.

Satan is not intimidated by words, he only understands and fears God's Holy Word. God has put limits on intelligence, but not on ignorance. It has never ceased to amaze me that anyone with one cell still functioning in the brain would not fear more about their eternal life than their casual attitude about the things of this world. You cannot obey the first commandment unless you have your freedom in Christ. If you want to lose your freedom, start buying Satan's lies. The greatest example of servitude, Christ washing the feet of Judas.

It is around the communion table that you experience true worship. My choice of all advice from my personal inventory of advice: at this beginning of a new year, worship Jesus at the communion table, whether in your home or at the church, whether alone or with others, just as often as possible. The archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Roan Williams said, “draw near to the Christian experience by praying our Lord's Prayer as often as possible.” Our Father who art in heaven... (Matthew 6:9-13). God is as close as the dew on the grass, if you want Him to be; I wish for you that personal relationship.

Europe is having the worst winter in 500 years, snow and ice from London to Moscow, two Russian icebreakers desperately trying to rescue 550 Russians in 3 fish vessels in the Okhotsk Sea. We do not have any certainty about what will happen from one day to the next, there have been such uncertainties in my lifetime. This past weekend, 5,000 blackbirds and 100,000 drum fish dead in Arkansas. The federal government blamed the dead birds on a storm. There was no storm, the enlightened have known about the chemtrails/chemistry of the atmosphere. The enlightened have known about the chemistry of the rivers.

Satan uses every evil to drive people down to his level. You cannot be all that you can be until you escape the tares and cares of the world. Satan has had enough influence on us, it is time to get on with our life.

Automatons

"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer." (Psalm 19:14)

Millions of Americans have been jolted recently, learning that the IRS and other government agencies are checking everything about them. They thought they were living in a land of freedom (this writer has experienced police state brutality in such places as the Seychelle islands, Mauritius, China, where and when you were talking to someone they were constantly glancing around to see who was listening or watching). If citizens knew the peril they face in revealing their lives on Face book the government already know more about you, your bank account, your sins and silliness, than you do. Young people do not realize they are in a steady march to a Gulag. Even those who already live in government subsidized housing, even those totally dependant on welfare.
Like the so called meteorologist on television, the news commentator, just READERS who have no comprehension of their subject matter just parroting something that a government worker has dictated. Much like Mr. Obama, clueless unless reading from a teleprompter.
Americans have become Alta tones, just falling in line believing anything. They actually believe that chemotherapy and radiology will cure cancer, the very things that cause cancer, strange chemicals and radiation, both of which accumulate in the body. Cancer will not be cured because cancer is worth 1.2million dollars for every person with cancer. Many Americans actually believe that their children are being educated in a public school, when we rank 37th in the world in our knowledge of math and science. This is why home schooling grows seven times faster than public schooling. Parents want to get their loved children away from the decadence of public schooling... Some refuse to fall in line.
This writer dropped his membership in AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science), several years ago, because I found that today's scientist are much more interested in government and foundation grants than in research to improve the life of their fellow man. Like many pastors, much more interested in their pastoral packet (vacation, retirement, car allowance, etc) than the souls of people who just might come to hear them and the fact that UNSAVED people, still go to hell.
A verse of scripture that changed my life many years ago,  Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee (Psalm 84:5). The knowledge that my strength comes from God, has enabled me to live life as a 100% disabled veteran.
In my lifetime, 82 years, the world has changed AND, it is truly remarkable how people and businesses become just automatons.
How well I remember when any store, you receive personal service... A clerk taking care of you. How well I remember the first self service store I ever encountered... Pushing a shopping cart around, picking up things, checking out with a cashier. I thought, "anyone with baggy clothes can steal anything, and so it is". It really makes no difference anymore, because government welfare agencies are much more concerned about the shoppers than the seller... Furnishing a plastic card so the poorest do not have to worry about stealing AND, the twist beyond comprehension, sex and tabloid papers and magazines totally hiding the cash register so you cannot see what you are being charged. Business, from the banking house, to the court house, to the road house, has become a matter of greed. The hardworking, God fearing, tax paying citizen, attempting to live according to God's book, caught in the middle. The temptation of the automaton even as a child, "Everyone is doing it".
In my youth, church house, and school house, we were taught not to gossip. As one man said to me long ago, "If you cannot prove what your saying to me about someone else, don't tell me". Starting with gossip "screenland" magazines, then moving to the radio with engaging personalities such as Hedda Hopper, late night TV talk shows, led by Johnny Carson, all media fell in line with gossip talk shows.
The public, even responsible homes like automatons have fallen right in line with any sin or shameful activity coming around. Parents of young children even some who warm church house pews think it is fair to recognize same sex marriage, even the spending of $50 for the morning after pill by any young girl on a abortion activity... A pill to prevent inception -gestation. When will bible believing, real Christians, say enough is enough and throw the TV and other cesspools of satanic activity out of their house. It is not that we do not know better but Satan has his hold on us.
Doctors -nursing -public health officials know better, yet they will walk on carpet in the corridors of hospitals. They know full well that every germ known to man is hiding in these carpets. Parents and grandparents, who love their children and grandchildren, will sit right there in a house wall to wall carpet , a precious child crawling around on that carpet, souls of shoes, bottoms of animals have brought every germ possible to that house now hiding in the carpet. Intelligent people will go to a doctors office, wanting to get well. Further exposing themselves to every germ known to man by licking their fingers, turning pages of old germ infested magazines, sitting on chairs where the skin of sick people have instilled germs. Most doctors, their staffs, are all too busy making money to clean their offices -hospitals, - clinics. The automaton theory of life, knowledge means little whether biological, political, or spiritual, just get in line and do what everyone else is doing.

The Forest and The Trees

In some ways suffering ceases to be suffering at the moment it finds a meaning, such as the meaning of a sacrifice.”

For this writer's entire life, in thinking of excellence, I have heard the expression, "You cannot see the trees for the forest..." other times, "You cannot see the forest for the trees." For the sightless person, you cannot see the forest or the trees, but, the sounds and smells tells you the woodlands are there.

I still remember the day my father's oldest, I was a teenager, when he took me through hundreds of acres of woodlands to show me the boundary lines. I'm sure his father had done the same for him. This was before the time of spray paint, often it was just a large post driven into the ground. In fact, reading the descriptions on land deeds, the surveyor would refer to posts-rocks-certain trees etc... as boundary lines or corners. Landowners were very careful about their own land, he did not want an adjacent landowner coming across the line and selling some of his fine trees. Much of my father's woodlands had come down through many generations and much of it was virgin timber. He knew the value of certain wood, certain trees, oak, poplar, pine etc. Woodlands were sold and appraised by the value of individual trees. I can still see, from my childhood, oxen pulling the logs from the forest.

Warning flares always indicate danger. Albert Einstein, perhaps the world's greatest mind, said, "Only two things are infinite, the Universe and man's ability to be stupid." The twentieth century saw mankind put his trust in men rather than God. We just refused to believe that there are exceptional people... that some trees stand out even in a forest. It sometimes takes a while to recognize these people. Of the eighty greatest personalities in the bible, most discussed, just a few were religious leaders. Such men as Abraham, Joseph, most of the disciples, like Luke the physician, would not be considered religious leaders. Moses, perhaps the educated man of his time, "And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds."- Act 7:22 (Herded dumb sheep for 40 years before God saw fit to use him.) But God knew where he was the entire time. God knew where this child of Amram and Jochebad was, even when he was in a small basket in the Nile as his sister Miriam watched from a distance. At Myraba, Moses knew what it was like to deal with the three million "stiffnecked" former slaves whom he had led out of Egypt, led through the Red Sea, water piled up on two sides. Really, not one of them deserved to drink of the water. Salvation that neither he nor the children of Israel had done one thing about. For the entire history of the Jewish people, it was always God. When anyone tells you to prove the bible, just say there is a three letter word to prove the bible, J-e-w.

We live in a time of stupid voters, genuflecting before politicians who ride around on private jets... eat from gold plates and laugh at you. Most of today's opinion molders-power brokers, no longer look for the exceptional mind, the exceptional morality, the exceptional integrity, rather, the lowest denominator of man who will bow to any decadent incredulity. They just want a "yes man". That "blah" individual that will never stand out in a crowd, those who would put forth the effort and faith to achieve. 90% of the christian faith is just raw courage. It takes courage to stand out, to be the exceptional person, to always present the best version of yourself whether in the classroom, on the sports field, their place of worship, in your chosen vocation.

I live in the town in which Michael Jordan, one of the world's greatest basketball players, was raised. He had a passion for sports. In high school, college, even during his NBA career, he continued to practice every day. He paid the price for excellence.

This writer knows discouragement, to never have been encouraged about anything, anytime. Many years ago, at a small baptist college, now a university, I established financial awards for excellence... two senior excellence awards of $3000 each, each year, faculty and staff financial awards for excellence of $4000 each, other financial awards for outstanding students. I feel that money is something which proves ones worth. My giving was continued for many years until liberal administrators did not want awards of excellence... let everyone "get a trophy just for playing." Likewise, and this is not to impress anyone, God knows my heart, I gave financial awards for outstanding pastors, Sunday School personnel, superintendents and teachers. I have letters from sunday school personnel that tell me they taught for thirty years and never received any recognition. If it is nothing but a gold star beside a child's name in a public school or sunday school, any child appreciates recognition... standing out from the crowd. With most personal fortunes, everything is gained with a wink or something diabolical. Former president L. B. Johnson, never made much money in his lifetime but retired as president with a $53 Million fortune. Other presidents, and you know who they are, compromising-conniving, have retired with great fortunes... so have the goldbrickers of industry-education-political intrigue. Many did not gain wealth or notoriety because of their ability but because of their notoriety. Never confuse accomplishment with celebrity. Remember Helen Keller and Madonna.

"There are no such things as divine, immutable or inalienable rights. Rights are things we get when we are strong enough to make good our claim to them." -Helen Keller

My friend, Dr. John East, ECU professor, U.S. Senator, spent most of his life in a wheelchair. He said to me one time, "The disabled life is hardly worth living." He later killed himself. You are not stuck where you start, or stuck in any suffering that befalls you. Give the best version of yourself and recognize the exceptionalism of others.
