11-11-11

Today is veterans day 11-11-11, a spin-off of armistice day of WWI (armistice signed at 11:00am on November 11th, 1918. 100 years from now there will be another 11-11-11. Does anyone think, seriously, that the world will still be standing?

HOW DID WE GET HERE? Upon graduation after eight years of intensive study, even before internship, I was commissioned as a medical officer in the US Army. It was necessary for me to present copies of transcripts, diplomas, the passing of boards, then, as a duly sworned, commissioned officer, subjected to several weeks of intensive military training. Receiving a direct commission, you do not go through any basic training as do enlisted personnel. Some new officers had trouble keeping up with the wearing of a cap, putting brass on the uniform, learning to give and return salutes. Without the headpiece, you are not in uniform. I well remember one young, blond-haired, doctor, officer, who had never worn a cap in his life, running around out of uniform.

Among the training activities, and there is no way of knowing what you will encounter in warfare, you learn to read the coordinates of a map. Another officer and myself were put out on the side of a road with just a map and compass. It was up to us to find our way back. THE WORLD HAS LOST IT'S COMPASS.

The head of the Bank of England , Sir Mervyn King, according to Newsmax states “the world is in the worse financial condition in history.” Michael Bloomberg, mayor of New York, states that no person should be elected President of the United States unless the person believes in evolution.

A finger is on the trigger of a nuclear bomb. Everything points to warfare between Iran and Israel. We know that Israel is a nuclear power and have reason to believe that Iran, because of Russia and China has nuclear capabilities. Because of a total involvement of Middle east, perhaps nuclear fallout in the entire area, Pakistan may use her nuclear weapons against enemies. Those of us who remember the 1959 epic movie, On the Beach remember the disaster of nuclear fallout covering the earth.

We live in a time when news involves perverts, pedophilia, Paterno and his football career.

We live in a time of sensationalism with a doctor who was paid $150,00 per month to treat a rock star, Michael Jackson.

We live in a time when women and slick lawyers shamelessly come forth after many years from the alleged incident to attack a man in the headlines. Remarkably, only women from one stage of Cain's life. His life as a youth, in the military, head of a federal agency, active in large corporations, talk show host, senate candidate when he was around many women, has not been questioned.

We live in a time when industry and it's jobs have been sent overseas. The constant lament, jobs, preparation for jobs. Like education, the unions representing teachers, where is their activity against the killing of children. In order for a teacher's union to have teacher membership, there must be children to teach. In order for unions to have workers, there must be industry to employ workers.

We live in a time when the need for protection, state and personal security has resulted in the loss of much privacy. The older population remembers the charm of air travel, propeller planes, well dressed patrons, lackadaisical airports. Who would have thought about going through metal detectors at public buildings, such as stores, the school house, the court house but worse, law enforcement and the judicial which have become bullies, revenue collecting agents... more interested in fines and fees, harassment and scare tactics than due process.

We live in a time of total change in culture, savings wiped away by politics. Precious homes wiped away by the disparity of mortgages, greed from the bank to the corner store. There was a time when a father, finding that the boy had messed around with his daughter, would settle the affair with a shotgun wedding, there was a time when neighbors, finding that one of their own had been cheated, would settle the affair with tar and feathers and a trip to the county line. There was a time when voters knew that God was looking over their shoulder in the voting booth. A Christian voter would never have supported a political party or politician who supported the murder of babies or same sex marriage. The ludicrous excessive taxation of people working for a living, the people who own the property that support the community and it's functions.

We got this far, because our ancestors, those who planted the flowers which we are picking were endowed by their Creator with the fear of God, the worship of God, and their trust in God.
