Need To Know
"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."
Philippians 2:5-8

Consistent Inconsistency
In F. Scott Fitzgerald's
classic novel, the Great Gatsby, the main character, who lived next door to
Gatsby, said, "My father said to me, one can not be too judgmental or
critical of others because many have not had my advantages."Sunday, February 16, 2014

From the Barbershop

A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects.
When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: 'I don't believe that God exists.' 'Why do you say that?' asked the customer. 'Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine a loving God who would allow all of these things.'
The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop.
Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair
and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkempt. The customer turned back and entered the barbershop again and he said to the barber:
'You know what? Barbers do not exist.' 'How can you say that?' asked the surprised
barber. 'I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!'
'No!' the customer exclaimed. 'Barbers don't exist because if they did, there would be no
people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside.'
'Ah, but barbers DO exist! That's what happens when people do not come to me.'
'Exactly!' affirmed the customer. 'That's the point! God, too, DOES exist! That's what happens when people do not go to Him and don't look to Him for help. That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world.'
Addition by Dr. Morris:
Until I went to college, no one had ever cut my hair except my father. My father was a farmer, a large successful farmer, but his success, like the success of most people, was built around the around the one, never-failing concept of hard work. He farmed during the week, but cut hair at a local barbershop on weekends.
Just before his funeral, at the large family church built by his ancestors, and attended by my grandparents/great grandparents, the funeral director came over and handed me a card that had been attached to one of the many large wreaths. Totally blind since the war, I could not read the card, but just stuck it in my pocket. Later someone read it to me, it was from one of his customers, the local senator and legislator. "In memorial to the only man who was concerned about my soul. The only man who ever asked me about my relationship with Jesus Christ." You see, he farmed, cut hair, did many other things, but his chief interest was in the salvation of souls.
As a child, and that was many years ago, in my home and community, there was little challenge about faith in God. It was only after I matriculated at the university, was exposed to the hordes and whores of hell who teach in these places, that I began to question my religious beliefs. As always, the deceiver, the tempter, as with Eve, from the very beginning, asked questions about why God does not give us sublime knowledge about everything. God is truth and will teach us the truth if we let Him. (John 17:17, John 8:32)
It is all a matter of grace, and His grace is sufficient. His grace was sufficient to settle this matter of inequality at the cross. Every time I encounter a disabled human being, a handicapped pet, some other form of imperfection, instead of asking why, we should ask: why not? Why have I spent most of my life as a blind person; when because of my education, training, I could have done so much more than I have done.
Books have been written on the subject, but God shows the grace of His beings through His workmanship. For we are His workmanship (Ephesians 2:10), living epistles...ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men (2 Corinthians 3:2)

Squatters

We are bombarded each day with bad news, every person listening to news from the nation of Chile, as the 33 copper miners were taken out of the San Jose copper mine in which they had been trapped for 69 days breath a sigh of relief, because everyone could imagine whether claustrophobic or not, what it was like for these miners, as well as their families who waited for them on the surface of the earth. Hopelessness, whether lost in outer space, on the vast ocean waves, or down in the earth, trips the causal horror of life's belief system. We can only imagine the horror of being lost, without hope of rescue, certain death. Perhaps this is the reason that God's redemption for those who are eternally lost is so important for the saved.
We are all just squatters here on earth, just taking up space and time, leasing our existence. When God put us here, he gave us everything we need to survive, we have our conditional use permit. Some take tremendous risk in order to make a living. The lazy boy is the greatest exploiter of human existence. Would it not be nice if every human being could just sit around on a lazy boy our entire life, watching trash brought in by technology, eating useless technological food. As ridiculous as it seems, there are now addiction clinics for internet and cell-phone users, just as there are addiction clinics for over-eaters, over-drinkers, over-smokers.
There is nothing more important than the dignity of the human-being, there is nothing more dignified than hard work, nothing more evil than laziness...living off the hard work of others. This is where the 20th century problems begin, entire populations dependent on the hard work of others.
The tragedy is that there so much risk is involved in mining. Wonderful it is to see real national leadership in what is considered a third-world country. Wonderful it is to have a president who took charge, one of the three richest presidents in the world...a billionaire. In America, we have become accustomed to a President just making political fodder out of a catastrophe, a photographic opportunity. “You never let a crisis go to waste”
We were made to live in a world of morality and decency, the earth is the Lord's and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. (Psalm 24:1) What has happened, struggle for survival, the counterfeit always looks like the real. In my lifetime I have seen the real America replaced by the counterfeit. We think political and economic forces are the answer, we want answers from the very ones who have created the problems. The greed of Wall Street, the corruption of national and state capitol buildings, the tares that have taken of the churches.
You either believe in the fraud of the world, or you don't. You either believe in a profane, vulgar world, or you don't. You either believe the counterfeits of the world or you don't. You either believe the apostasy of the world, or you don't. You either believe in the simple message of the Bible, or you don't. We do what we do because we believe what we believe. You believe in the promises of this democratic republic or you don't. You believe in the absurdities of the Democrat party or you don't. You believe you will answer to almighty God for your vote, or you don't.
On October 9th, John Lennon would have been 70 years of age. He said, “the Beatles are more important than Jesus Christ.” On October 9th, it was announced that John Edwards is being investigated for using political funds to cover up his adultery. John Lennon, John Edwards, the Sunni Muslim President Obama, these are the American heroes. Michelle Obama proclaimed the world's most powerful woman, someone who has never done anything for anyone, seldom showed up for work at her $315,000 a year job. The miners in Chile would still be underground if they had to depend on such people.
Remember, we are all vulnerable, as a totally blind, 100% disabled veteran, I know vulnerability. I find that most normal young people think that nothing bad will ever happen to them. Get ready, if it has not happened, it is on the way. You will need the same sustenance, the same mental stability which kept these 33 men and their families confident. I have not known a survivor yet who did not speak of his faith. Faith is a verb, action based on belief, sustained by confidence. I firmly believe that 95% of faith is just raw courage. It does not take much courage to sit around, spoiled, lazy, fat, living off a welfare check, from the work of a hardworking person who pay their taxes. When will we realize that 50% of the American population does not pay income tax, just lives off the hard work, the God-fearing endurance and confidence of others.
If not all ready in the firm foundation of Jesus Christ, build your faith, your vulnerability, through a time of regular Bible study and prayer. Memorize important scripture, it will get you through the bad times. The father, the head of the house of the Jewish slaves in Egypt, killed the lamb, put the blood of the lamb on the door post of the house, and waited for the passover of the death angel. They had on their clothes, had on their shoes, staff in hand, as they ate the roasted lamb. All were healed of all infirmities and disease (Psalm 105).The prophet Isaiah, writing 700 years before the event (Isaiah 53), wrote that Christ would take our redemption to the cross. Forgiveness for all our sins as well as our healing for all disease. We can either believe the simplicity of the message or not, we can either get ready for our trials or not. Whether you believe or not, Jesus paid it all.
The thing that amazes me most about people, whether in Chile, Europe or America, whether president or pope, saint or sinner, politician or prophet, are we stupid enough to think that God is stupid? Just think, the very One who spoke and the earth was formed, the very one who gave us dominion over the earth designed animal life, plant life, knowledge which man can scarcely understand, photosynthesis and the clotting of blood. He will give us every adventure as well as every escape from adventure. He asked us to trust Him, He is doing things in His own time, in His own way.
Think how convenient it would have been for Columbus to own a cell-phone, George Washington to have a drone. God is in charge, He is Boss. Can you even imagine if Christ does not return for his own, the scientific developments that will take place in the future. Regardless, past, present or future, the atomic weights on the periodic table have not and will not change. The laws of motion will remain the same, nuclear power will still be a servant or a destroyer. 19 times Paul said in his love letter to the church at Philippi to have joy, there is much joy in the knowledge that the Creator of the universe is still in charge of everything, even the squatter on His earth.

Malignancy

This week, September 17th, I will reach my eightieth year, a hard, long, exceptional life. There is not one little doubt in my mind that I was chosen, But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9). In spite of my peculiarities, eccentricities, alpha personality, blindness for most of my life, God needed me just as I am. In my life time I have seen the world totally change, upside down, inside out. Matters that were considered evil in my childhood are now either good or tolerated. Sin is acceptable and Christianity is condemned.
I was on the board of deacons at a large Baptist church in North Carolina. The chairman of the board of deacons, a prominent realtor and insurance man, who had married into a wealthy and prominent family, told me one day, ”I learned to play the game. I know how to outshine these old, wealthy families in town. I know how to compete with the crooks in this town. I know how to influence the political power-brokers, I know how to enthrall the masqueraders at the country club. I know how to fool the pretenders at the church. I have learned to live in this world of make believe.” A few weeks later, the deacons filed into the church as honorary pall-bearers at his funeral, he had committed suicide. I knew the family, and until now until his secret died with him and with me, he was just one of many who preferred to live in a fairy-tale world. The malignancy that has taken over in business, politics, social circles, and particularly the church.
It is time for all of us to get honest with one another. In order for a book to a bestseller, it must be a worst-smeller. Contracts are made to be broken, and insurance policies can only be understood by lawyers. Most people just expect to be taken, no matter what type of business transaction. There was time when blood was thicker than water, your family would defend you in spite of everything (notice how fast preacher Terry Jones' daughter condemned him). The least reliable people in my life are my family. I believe that many people have dogs because truly, your dog is your only best friend. Malevolence is the opposite of benevolence, a malevolent or malignancy is just destructive. It is so much easier to tear something down than to build something up. It takes a long, carefully lived life to construct a healthy body that a malignancy can destroy very rapidly. Think of the time, talent, treasury involved to build this great nation and consider how quickly it has fallen.
There are 1,500,000,000 short wave radios in the world, our military forces drop these small short-wave radios into the villages of the enemies of our country all over the world. We hope, those who find them will tune them in to short-wave stations, where they will learn of the good qualities from America. Most of these poor people do not know how to lie, cheat and steal. Most have family values, anxious for whatever schooling they can get, have learned to depend on one another. Whatever religion they profess, it is real to them, they worship with all honesty and sincerity, not pretending as in more affluent, civilized cultures.
From the Jewish captivity in Babylon, the Jews remarkable ability to prosper there, Jewish moneychangers moved from Babylon to Rome, then to France and Germany. William the Conqueror came across from Europe and established a foothold in England, ending with the Battle of Hastings. It all started with a Magna Carta, I will not go into the various kings or territories involved, but it was from the establishment of early English law, the early taxation of the people, that these money-changers came across and put a “clamp” on the common people, their civil rights to have property and freedom of opportunity. Such led to the founding of colonies in the new world, as well as colonization of the rest of the world. But it is the same money-changers emanating from the Illuminati, the Bilderbergers, the international bankers, led by the Rothschilds, the Rockefellers, and many others, including the committee on foreign relations to which such notables as Kissinger, Bush 41 and 43, belong, that are still the shadow government maintaining world control.
How can anyone, a man 80 years of age, or a child one year of age, have any future in this dark night of the soul with such people as Skull and Bones (Luciferians), members Bush 43 and John Kerry, as well as the world-wide masons in these secret endeavors. The only refuge for the common man, 80 or 1, in the year 2010, is Christian faith, the knowledge of sin's ruins and Christ's redemption. The year 33 AD when Christ was hung on the cross, the dedication of Solomon's Temple in 750 BC (1 Kings 7&8), (the greatest building in the history of the world, a building at which time 22,000 oxen were sacrificed, a building covering 13 acres), then as now, our only hope, faith in God. Faith has been describe as refuge in the cleft of a rock, or the safety of a small bird under the mother bird's wings.
I can tell you, at this place in my life, the only thing on which you can depend is your faith in Christ, by grace. When you have money, you have what money can do. When you have politics, you have what politics can do. When you have education, you have what education can do. But when you have the power of God, through Christ, you have what faith can do. The same power that threw the stars into space, that raised Lazarus from the dead, the same power that gave the breath of life to Adam.

Empowerment
A subject of research is the migration of the Monarch Butterfly that navigates winter in northern areas including Canada and flies south to Michoacán, Mexico. A great mystery, like the Northwest Salmon that migrate, or the Arctic Tern which migrates 3,000 miles each season from the Arctic to the Antarctic, I was amazed on visiting the cliffs around the Arctic Ocean to see the areas almost totally covered by these birds where they are hatched. It further amazes me that this small bird about the size of your fist has the innate ability, or empowerment, to leave the Arctic and fly 3,000 miles to their summer “camp ground.” The butterfly, the salmon, the tern, all empowered by an all-sufficient Creator to find their route of travel and their maintenance by the will of God. Over and over, we are told to watch the ants, the way this smallest of visible creatures can maintain and, if this isn’t sufficient, get a microscope and watch life without backbones as they live and multiply.
When the British archeologist Carter first opened the Tut Tomb in the Valley of The Kings in Egypt (this is one of the few tombs which had not been robbed earlier), among the magnificence of gold and treasure, was the unwanted capture of microbiology, still thriving after thousands of years, diseases unknown to science at that time and even today, which sickened and killed much of the healthy. Carter survived, but was never well after this.
The greatest challenge in today’s world of technology is laziness. Never in history have we had the ability to empower civilization with the knowledge and morality that we have today. Yet, young people whose ancestors developed power instruments and appliances, discoveries for better health, expeditions into outer space, drop out of high school without knowing how to do anything and even most with diplomas, cannot read or write. 40% of live births in this day of reproductive education, are to single mothers. 50% of the population in this day of nutritional knowledge, are diabetic. 68% of the population in this day of multiple exercise facilities and carefully controlled foods, are overweight. Nearly 75% of the population are addicted to some substance that is dangerous. Only 8% of the world’s population are living with any semblance of prosperity. (If you have a car and some money in the bank, you are better off than 92% of the world’s population.)
From 1799 to 1892, this nation was dedicated by the U.S. Supreme Court to be Christian. At the rate of nearly 10% each year, we are becoming less a Christian nation. Occasionally, you will have someone in industry or athletics as the exception. The owner of Chic-Filet has always closed his business on the Lord’s Day. Mormon athletes will not participate in athletic events on the Lord’s Day. Sandy Koufax, famous Jewish baseball pitcher, would not play ball on Saturday, the Jewish Lord's Day.
In a country blessed of God with the entanglements of materialism, 30,000 citizens, mostly young people, commit suicide every year, one every 3 minutes. Young girls, having given their most private and precious possession to someone seeking sexual gratification, do not feel empowered to give live birth to the life within them, the greatest of God‘s creation, and so, enabled by godless Planned Parenthood, godless social workers and councilors, 63 million babies are slaughtered in the holocaust abortion mills, particularly among the Black population. The black population numbers 13% of the total American population yet accounts for nearly 52% of all abortions (1,400 black babies each day). Those in this country who love life, who love the precious promises of God, are anxious to assist in finding homes and adoptions for these children who might just be the next Pope, President, pastor or the presenter of some great scientific discovery or source of entertainment.
The founder of the Methodist Church in this country, John Wesley, was crossing the ocean on a ship at a time of storm. He was scared beyond words, yet he noticed a group of Mennonites who acted unafraid, busy singing hymns. After the storm, he asked them why they showed no fear during the storm. One said, “The same God who takes care of us in the calm, takes care of us in the storm. It is all His business.”
There are one million handicapped citizens in America. As just one of these disabled people (I am a totally blind 100% disabled service connected veteran), it took awhile but I have learned to walk by faith not by sight. I had rather walk with God through the darkness of blindness with its isolation and cruelness than walk in bright daylight with 20/20 vision, alone. When I go to the Veterans’ Hospital and see the phalanx of wheelchair-bound veterans, the scars of wounds (there are not that many blind, usually, when there, I am the only one), I rejoice in the knowledge that we were fortunate enough to live in a country worth fighting for, dying for and living for in a haze of disability. I still believe the greatest heroes of this nation are the mothers and fathers who were brave enough to have and raise children and empower them with the training and education necessary to make this the most blessed nation in history.
When I go in my yard and hear birds singing, when in a distance I can hear the laughter of children, I have the assurance that God has empowered animals, human, domestic and wild to survive. With all the technology of artificial color, synthetic mediums, corruptible personalities and behaviors, substitutes for the reality of God have not been discovered. The singing of birds, the laughter of children are still the best symphonies known to the auditory nerve system.
When the new Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, accepted the Margaret Sanger Award (founder of Eugenics and Planned Parenthood), her husband (the first Black President according to Toni Morrison), forgot that Margaret Sanger called Black people “weeds” and racist Sanger like Charles Darwin, felt they should be exterminated. To the uninitiated, everything is obscure. Mr. Obama‘s Saul Alinsky in his book “Rules For Radicals” “the scripture” on which Mr. Obama is evidently basing his Presidency, isolates targets and just works towards them. The voters who have put him and his ilk in power and have empowered him to turn this country into a “changed” Socialist “pawn shop” will be empowered by their conscience and the wrath of Almighty God to repent for this empowerment and the forsaking of every principle of integrity that made this country great. For those of us who wore the uniform, who bear the marks of battle, those of you who empowered the present administration, have sufficiently insulted us as individuals and as a group.

Lost The Key

We have lost the key to trustworthiness, common sense. Have you noticed that people do not have the brightness and personality that they did at one time. Teachers have told me that children no longer have a brightness in the eye, quickness in the step, they act almost as zombies. They are too wrapped up in television, inside video games, the computer. We know that IQ has dropped in recent years, there are so many abstractions, one war after another, one economic recession after another. Plausible didactic contraction of the intellect, easily twisted, manipulated, sinking in a sea of mediocrity, and because it is politically incorrect, most are unwilling to swim away.
The hardness of a diamond is exact no matter where you find it in the universe or on this planet. So it is with any element, the atomic weight of any element is the same regardless of where you find it in the universe. The mathematics and physics is the same, Chinese physics uses the same mathematics as French calculation, pi is still 22/7 whether used by a Asian student or an extraterrestrial from outer space.
The great philosopher Dr. Mortimer Alder (1902 – 2001) said he was a pagan before he wrote his book in 1980, How to Think About God. By 1984 he was a believer and baptized in to the Episcopal church, he said, “the mysteries were incomprehensible. What's the point of revelation if we could figure it out ourselves?” He later became a Catholic, you note that his was not a heart conversion, but an intellectual conversion, he spoke nothing of repentance or his faith in the grace of God. Like so many, he was looking for a key.
God cannot be contradicted nor deceived, in Christian apologetics (a system of giving reasons for your Christian belief) be prepared to give reasons for the hope within you (1 Peter 3:15). Churches are full of members who know nothing about what they are supposed to believe, so it is with the denominations, so it is with various religions. I can think of nothing more pitiful than associating Christ with Buddha and Muhammad. Buddha and Muhammad were sinners, they could not save themselves. How many Christians do you know who believe in karma and yoga? How many Christians do you know who allow their children to read Harry Potter? Witchcraft is the fastest growing religion among college students.
We cannot mix God with the world, theoretical and the practical, physical and spiritual, the nature of the lion will not change. Supernatural God will change people, people learn to act in a supernatural way, learn to pray, learn to live in a “shadowland” of mysticism and materialism. We eat food which we can handle and see, but we breathe a prayer to God, whom we do not see. We've lost the key to many things, particularly the division, the absolutes of right and wrong.
I was in Rwanda, the native guide driving the vehicle said to me, “tell me about the God that is worshiped in your part of the world.” This hit me like a load of bricks. Here is a man with a soul, longing for the security for which all souls yearn. The western world is full of people who hear the plan of salvation over and over. It either means nothing to them, or they just want to continue in their sins. Even though, every human being has innate need, the curiosity, the knowledge that there is more than just this life, and yet, once The Greatest Story Ever Told (Fulton Auwsler) has been made clear, then it is up to “hearer” to either accept or deny “so great salvation”.
I said to him, “I believe in a divine spirit, never beginning, never ending, who made the universe. From the dust of the earth, He made man and woman. He gave them free will and the very first couple on earth disobeyed Him, exercising their free will, and everyone since has lived in sin. About 6000 years after He created them, because of their sin, He killed all of them except for one family, and a boatload of animals He chose to preserve. Again, about 4000 years later, they had evidently learned nothing, still in sin...but since man has the innate desire to worship something, they were making for themselves false idols, and from this idol worship he selected one man, Abraham, who started a whole new nation of people, and we have a Bible which mostly concerns that nation. Again, the people mired in sin, not keeping the laws of God, so God put His wrath on His only Son to save mankind from their sins. The only thing asked of people since the death and resurrection of His only Son, is just to believe in Him, to become new creatures, living as the example which God set while He lived on Earth. We have a book, the Bible, the instruction book, and answer book for every problem of life, and all we have to do is trust this great God of the universe as you described Him. From the very beginning, man has been a rebel, choosing sin rather than goodness, darkness rather than light, this is the reason for the troubles of the world. Most people in the world consider God's gift of eternal life too good to be true.”
As has happened in places of worship, tent revivals, large Crusades, when the story is presented in it's simplicity, without the intricacies of theology involved, you never know whether anyone accepts the greatest key of trustworthiness which has determined the history of the world. Not one promise of God has ever been broken, yet we refuse to trust, not one prophecy from the beginning of time has not been fulfilled, yet we refuse to trust. It makes no difference about education, wealth, or any other material matter. We cannot bring our trustworthiness to the level of spiritual belief. Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thing iniquities; who healeth all they disease; (Psalm 103:1-3)

Connect The Dots
“Singing old church hymns and nursery rhymes
From the days way back before my time.
With a little child upon my knee
Singing every sweet word back to me.
Look how far I had to come
To get back where I started from.”
Waylon Jennings
Thank God, we are not stuck where we start. Old age is not for sissies. I don't have many enemies because I have outlived them all. I'm not afraid of anything anymore because “I have been there and done that”. When people call me eccentric or silly, or when people steal from me, I just think of the greatest promise in the Old Testament, Jeremiah 9:12. I realize that there are 8,887 promises in the bible and that each one has been fulfilled. I realize that 27 times in the psalms we find these words, “the mercies of the Lord endure forever”. Jesus endured it all and remained righteous, from his birth until his cruel death on the cross. The youngest disciple, John, along with his mother were at the foot of the cross when he died. Lucky is the man, even God, who can have your best friend and your mother with you at the end. I stopped long ago, trying to explain God to unbelievers. Without God, you cannot understand God. To the chosen, to those who know God, no explanation is necessary. To those who do not know God, no explanation is possible.
The best explanation I can give of this involves the one man who wrote 13 of the books in the New Testament, Saul, who became the apostle Paul. He, like David, of the Old Testament, was a murderer but God had a very special mission for both. In the dirt of the road as Saul traveled to Damascus, God talked to him, man to man. I have walked down the street called straight in Damascus. Even Ananias was afraid to encounter Saul as he sat blinded but at God's command, he went to him and the blindness left...as does spiritual blindness leave everyone who has an encounter with God...and Paul, perhaps the most educated man of his age in the world, became the stalwart disciple of Christ. From Romans to Philemon, and certainly the letter to the Hebrews, the church finds everything it needs to know about God's mission for the church. Once, in Jerusalem, the great American comedienne Totie Fields said to me, “Dr. Morris, what is wrong with these Arabs and Jews that they must be in conflict all the time?” Frank Sinatra was in the same hotel at that time (both now dead, she was already in a wheel chair at that time).
In a few years, India will be the world's greatest power. I saw the conflicts between India and Pakistan while I was in Kashmir...this too involving religions. Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens, perhaps the worlds two most outspoken Atheists, blamed the world's problems on religion. Dawkins attacked from a biological standpoint and Hitchens from a historical standpoint. On the first of my three trips to Communist China since it's reopening, my Chinese guide asked me about American religion. Of course, in China, Mao who killed 70,000,000 Chinese in order to wipe out all traces of foreign influence and religion, even beat up “all tombstones” in cemeteries to build roads, destroyed all monuments and churches. Still, there are more Christians in Communist China than the population of the United States...over 300,000,000 though there as in North Korea and other Godless, collectivist, totalitarian, state controlled countries religion is defiled.
My Chinese guide told me that he was taken form his village commune early in life because the officials appraised him as being bright, easily controlled and he was given every advantage so far as education and had learned several languages. He said, “I have some memory of my mother and a sister whom I loved very much”. He was about 30 years of age and had had no family contact in over 25 years. He said, “my life consists of listening to Western classical music which I have smuggled in and reading all the books I can obtain. Of course, in the forced abortion, Communist regime, there are very few girls, no one for a young man to marry and if he is not gay has little contact with anyone.
China, so anxious to build up a large Army and civilian workforce disposed of all female babies and now has the tremendous problem of a large frustrated male population. Most, like my Chinese guide, just puppet slaves of the state. Mao, Stalin, Lenin, all agreed “no amount of political freedom will satisfy the masses”. The beautifully decorated subway stations of Russia, with their gleaming chandeliers, their marching uniformed factory workers, their great military exploits, even their “free” health care system did not bring joy to the masses. Only after the Russian system was exposed and expelled did Russia develop (now a real economic force). Churches and spirituality regained their prominence.
Western civilization would never have prospered if not for the Christian church. Whittaker Chambers, American writer, Communist, Soviet spy, left Communism and became a believer after studying his child's ear. It has been a mystery of my life that anyone can be an unbeliever who has studied God's chief creation, the human body. Chambers knew that it was a magnificent sovereign design system, only possible through a divine omnipotent, omniscient creator who could design such a phenomenal feature. Even more so would have been his study of the human eye (the chemistry of tears of joy are different from the tears of grief from the same lacrimal gland of the human eye). The clotting of blood in which every chemical component must react in just an exact manner, the DNA of every cell of the trillions of cells in the human body (every cell possessing enough information of the 23,000 genome characteristics that would fill thousands of pages). I thought when Watson and Crick announced the discovery of DNA in 1953 that the myth of evolution would be wiped clean from the school books of America but, academics, because of sin, are so anxious for young people to love the creature instead of the creator. The incredibly fallacious myth of Darwin's discredited philosophy is still being taught. It is only in a Godless, Communist, tyranny that, because of the advantages to the state and, the political correctness which is part of Satan's agenda, that this idiocy is still being introduced to young minds who do not have the courage of faith.
There are many absolutes in the world, the absolute of right and wrong, the absolutes of the laws of motion, the absolutes of the periodic table, the absolutes of the notes on a sheet of music. I want my pilot to be absolute about his knowledge of flying a plane, my surgeon to be absolute of his knowledge about where to cut on my body, my politician to be absolute in the integrity of government. I want my pastor to be absolute in his belief in sins ruin and Christ's redemption. I am an absolutest, a conservative, a defender of the right, an enemy of the wrong. It takes courage to have faith in the grace of God but that connects all the dots and gives you the encouragement to keep living.

Padded Pews

On my second trip to China in 1980, I visited the famous Mogao Caves (a system of 492 temples in which thousands of Buddhist statues are located) where statue of Buddha and other Buddhist art is located. It is a treasury of Buddhist history and one of the many phenomenal aspects of Chinese life as affected by art and religion. The thing I remember most about the visit, four Chinese men walked up to me and said in English, “Are you a Christian? We are Christian.” This was the last question I ever expected to hear in a godless, communist country, by men dressed in the usual Mao uniforms and who looked no different than the zillions of Chinese men and women everywhere. I said, “Yes, praise God. I am thankful you are able to recognize a fellow Christian. I wished there were some way I could express to you how much God loves you and how much the Christians in the world are praying for you.”
Knowing the prying ears of government agents, including my guide, I made their photograph, shook their hands, gave each of them my card and retreated. The first words out of my guides mouth were, “What did those men say to you?” I said, “They were anxious to practice their English. I told them how much I was enjoying the caves.” The Chinese Christian church is growing because, like the early Christian church started in Antioch. Life is not easy for the Christian there, they are suffering persecution, but always, under persecution, the church grows. I understand that in spite of the starvation and degradation of the people in North Korea, the Christian church is growing even though 100,000 Christians are in prison. If you can imagine the absolute depravity of existence outside prison, can you even imagine life inside a communist North Korean prison.
My son, my only child, (Dr. John M. Morris) after all his years of education, microbiology, medicine, theology, (2 doctorates) spent many years, along with his wife and children, on the mission field in South Korea. He said, “The new Christians are so sincere in their faith that even in sickness, they believe in the power of prayer which comes even before the doctor.” The most sickening matter of 21st century liberal Christian thought in this country at present, is that even in a case of counseling, the modernist pastor will send a Christian church member to a godless psychologist for help.
Other than visiting homes of many ambassadors in world travel, I always tried to visit missions and churches because like healthcare, soul care is the interest of my life. I was embarrassed before the holy spirit of almighty God to witness the simplicity of faith in impossible situations with mission churches around the world. (They do not have padded pews)
In the Cameroon’s, I attended a worship service under a large “brush arbor” with crude benches and many worshipers just sitting on the ground. They would spend much time in prayer with their knees and heads on the ground pleading for God’s mercy and thanking God for their blessings. There were no musical instruments just timing type drums to which they would sing with great gusto. Their worship did not include any of the voodoo type activity I had witnessed in voodoo festivals much of which had extended to the catholic services. These people had been taught the difference in true worship than just pretending with God on padded pews. It is not my purpose here to describe the mosque found in Muslim countries, the Zongs and temples of the Buddhist and Hindu religions or even the state sponsored religious houses found in secular countries such as Scandinavia.
You find about as much passion and faith in a state sponsored secular worship activity as you do in an American civic club or TV pseudo entertainment mockery. (Benny Hinn, Jimmy Swaggart, Robert Schuller, etc) I define faith as a verb, action based on belief, sustained by confidence. There are many definitions of faith in God’s inerrant word. I understand the word faith is defined as the safety under the wing of a mother bird or in the cleft of a large rock. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1) We are saved by grace through faith and nothing more.
A blind person depends on faith much more then a sighted person. We truly walk by faith not sight and, I HAD RATHER WALK IN DARKNESS IN MY BLINDNESS WITH GOD THAN TO WALK IN DAYLIGHT WITH GOOD EYES ALONE.
We exercise our faith in other things everyday. We put a letter with a stamp on it addressed to a certain place with faith believing it will get there. We buy a can of food at the grocery store with faith believing the can is correctly labeled. We put a pill from a bottle into our throat with faith believing that some half drunk or drugged pharmacist did not mix up the pills with ones of poison. We could give thousands of examples of using faith everyday in our daily activities, starting the car, or turning on a light switch.
The tragedy is that too few young people have experienced farm life where expensive seeds and fertilizer are put in the ground and we have the faith to believe that God in his omnipotent mercy will send the rain and sunshine essential for plant growth. It is too bad that young people cannot see the incubation of eggs, the hatching of small chicks with the innate knowledge of how to drink water. Or hear the definite sound of a mother hen different from any other hen. The sheep recognizes their own shepherds voice.
“For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.” (Job 14:7) The trials of life is such that most would not want to continue without hope. For the Christian, our hope is in our salvation and the many promises and prophecies of God’s word that until this very minute have been fulfilled and He has never forgotten. In knowing this, the disabled, the disenfranchised, the depressed and the despondent keep going with the “blessed assurance” that God will “never leave us or forsake us”. We are told that without vision the people perish, without hope, those with vision or without vision cannot long survive. Hope is found in encouragement and accomplishment. Why else would anyone strive to do better? We live with the blessed hope of our eternal salvation, enduring, life’s problems and disappointments.
God is love and our one commandment is to love one another. (John 13:34) Even if I were not sure and assured by the omnipotence, omniscience, and inerrancy of God’s infallible word, I would have to be convinced of God’s love and faithfulness by one great story in the Bible.
Abraham, the first Jew, perhaps one of the wealthiest men in the world, was living in Ur of the Chaldeas, was instructed by God to leave to an uncertain place, six hundred miles north. His father Terah, a worshiper of idols, died on the trip, near Damascus. But, in a long story of faith and promises, women and sons, he was instructed to offer his son of promise, Isaac, as a sacrifice. In a marvelous story, a type of Christ before Christ, the son of promise, about the same age as Christ when he was crucified, carried the wood for the fire on his back, up on the mountain, and Abraham, in complete obedience, just before killing his son in the sacrifice, was told by God not to kill his son, but rather a lamb. One of the most remarkable things about this story, a father knowing he would sacrifice his long awaited son of promise, they arose early in the morning.
All this happening 4,000 years before the sacrifice of God’s only Son, who likewise carried wood on his back, was killed to redeem both you and me. God showed once and for all with the rending of the veil of the temple, top to bottom, that the supreme act of love had been demonstrated for eternity. Sad to say, from then until now, people are still partial to thieves. Today, more than ever, Barabbas, the thief, would still be selected. “And now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” (1 Corinthians 13:13) Christianity has become so comfortable, padded pews, drama and drums, bells and smells. If Christians lived their faith before the world, the world would be changed. Instead, in the comfort zone of wanting to be accepted by the world, the world has changed and converted the church.
