Shanghai

The second largest city in the world is Shanghai, China (world's largest city is Mexico City). Shanghai, China is one of the world's largest ports and as I visited this great Chinese city on 2 occasions, I was amazed at both the wealth and poverty existing there. But, so can you be amazed at the wealth and poverty in any American city, for that matter in any American town. The way I am using this word today is not talking about the Chinese city, but I am using it as a verb, which means removing or mistreating someone against their wishes.

The best example of the shanghai of an individual occurred in December of 1944 when Sewell Avery, president of Montgomery Ward, the first mail order business in this country, established in 1872, was manhandled, taken out of his office bodily by US army troops (photographs of Avery being taken out of his office appeared on the front page of every newspaper in our country) because Avery and FDR had a disagreement about the National War Labor Board Agreement and the fact that Montgomery Ward was producing most of the materials used in the WWII effort. Today, Montgomery Ward has disappeared from history. The large store which was on Main Street in just about every town in our nation, the famous Montgomery Ward mail order catalog, all these things have been shanghaied forever from Americana (attached a 1916 Montgomery Ward catalog which I own, along with many others).

Just wait, in a few months, with Mr. Obama in command, the shift of our present economic state will have sunk to the depths that such corporate words as General Motors, Chrysler and other corporations which have made this country great, will have been shanghaied.

In a 1951 Duffy's Tavern radio program, someone asked why the Army had not carted out from Washington D.C. the politicians who were causing the economic disaster in the country. Politicians are the only people who can make a mess and then politic that they will correct everything. Someone said recently that Obama must be given more time. What better time for him to say goodbye! (The only difference in G.W. Bush than Obama is a matter of diction.) The entire country will soon be shanghaied.

AIG, which was given $750 billion in a bail out, is now asking for $180 million more to give bonuses to 43 executives. The only people I know who are in more trouble than the American taxpayer are those who were “dug out” at the Burr Oaks Cemetery in Chicago. They, not only were defiled in life but have been even more defiled in death.

Both Barry Goldwater and Charles Lindberg warned us about the Federal Reserve, which is not Federal and certainly has no reserve. (All it can do is print more worthless money, and as Bernacke has said, “We will pay off the debt with the worth of present day dollars.”) But we believe the lies of such self serving liberals as Greenspan, Bernecke, and Paulson, all of whom should be in jail, as the American tax-payer has been shanghaied by successful politicians. Erma Bombeck said, “Don't confuse fame and success. Think of Madonna and Helen Keller.”

The best example I can leave you with pertaining to being shanghaied: I know of a father who's ten-year-old son still could not swim after much money was spent on swimming lessons. One day is father took him to the deep end of the pool and said, “Two things I want you to know: God and I love you and you will not drown.” Then he threw him into the pool. The father said, “What do you know? I have a swimmer.”

Our country did not become a Godless cesspool of political deceit overnight. We will not get out of this mess overnight. And, the country you have loved, the country your parents and grandparents have supported with “blood, sweat, and tears” may never be the same again after this present Godless administration. God has a plan for each life and a plan for our country. It often takes long to make the identification. Remember, it takes more patience to wait than to work.
